Hillburn yard and the Rockland quarries
Hillburn’s rail yard lies 4.4 miles west of Monsey, just over the line toward the Ramapo hills, on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. A tractor or straight truck that shuttles loads off that yard can be collected wherever it is parked between runs; send us the street address and say whether a rollback can reach it.
Two crushed-stone operations listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration lie close by: West Nyack Quarry, 6 miles east, and the Haverstraw Quarry & Mill, 7.7 miles north-east. Dump trucks and tri-axles that run aggregate out of those gates are usually parked in a contractor’s lot when not working, so tell us whose lot it is and who can hand over the keys.
Further up the Hudson, the North American Rail Network shows the North Croton yard 11.5 miles north-east. If your truck works across the river from there, send photos of the cab, the frame rails and the plate with your first message.
Freight, moving vans, buses and refuse
General freight shows up on 57 of the 125 Monsey-based outfits still active in FMCSA’s carrier census. Box trucks and day cabs on general freight routes are what we expect to see most from this town, so have the registration and the title in the same folder before you call.
Fifteen of those carriers, by the federal motor carrier census, move household goods, and thirteen carry passengers. Moving vans and passenger vehicles registered in Monsey are trucks we buy too; for a passenger vehicle, keep the inspection sticker paperwork with the title so both can be checked together.
Refuse rounds out the list: ten carriers in the same FMCSA records haul garbage, refuse or trash. A packer or roll-off truck parked at a yard in Rockland County can be picked up there, and the yard manager’s phone number saves a trip.
Short runs, private fleets and the miles on them
Of the Monsey carriers in FMCSA’s census, 81 operate intrastate and 42 interstate, while 92 run private fleets hauling their own goods. A truck from a private fleet still needs the title in the business’s name; if the signer is a partner or officer, have the company paperwork that shows they can sign.
FMCSA’s carrier census splits the drivers in those registrations into 311 working within 100 miles and 62 beyond that radius. Most trucks here end the day close to home, which usually means pickup at a driveway, a shop or a depot inside the county.
Twenty-five Monsey outfits gave FMCSA a yearly mileage, and the middle truck among them logs 11,364 miles. Write the odometer reading down with the VIN when you contact us, since those two numbers start every conversation about a truck.
Single trucks and whole Monsey fleets
At the top end, FMCSA’s census has one Monsey fleet with 34 power units and 34 drivers, a second with 22 units and 16 drivers, and a third with 11 units and 10 drivers. An operator selling several units at once can list them together, one VIN per line, and we will plan collection around where each one sits.
The federal carrier census shows 12 new Monsey carriers in 2025 after 4 in 2024. A newer operation selling its first truck should have the title, the registration and any lease release on hand, since those three papers settle most questions at handover.
Construction, wholesale and the jobs around town
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 7,939 jobs in Monsey in 2023, with 361 in construction, a 4.5 percent share. Dump bodies, flatbeds and crew trucks from building sites around Rockland can be collected at the site or the contractor’s yard; tell us the gate hours.
Wholesale trade accounted for 183 jobs in that 2023 LEHD release, 2.3 percent, and manufacturing for 65, or 0.8 percent. Straight trucks with liftgates that serve warehouses and small plants along the county roads fit what we purchase, and a few photos of the box and the liftgate help us read the truck before we arrive.
Fuel terminals and the bases up the Hudson
Petroleum product terminals tracked by the Energy Information Administration sit at Cortland Manor, 14.7 miles north-east, and in the Bronx, 22.8 miles south-east. Fuel haulers and tank trucks that load at either point can be sold from wherever they are based; note the tank’s last product so we can plan the collection.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the NG Camp Smith training site 15.4 miles north-east and the West Point Military Reservation 17.6 miles north. Trucks that deliver to those installations come with gate passes and site rules of their own, so collection is arranged at the owner’s yard rather than on base.
Title office, clean-truck rules and farm trucks
For a lost title, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 45 South Route 9W in West Haverstraw is 8.1 miles from Monsey. Apply for the duplicate there before you sell, and bring the registration and your ID.
Albany’s two heavy-duty emissions rules, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus, both carry a paused enforcement status on the Department of Environmental Conservation’s site. Neither rule stands in the way of selling a diesel truck registered in Rockland County today.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 18 farms in Rockland County, with honey as the leading product. A farm pickup or flatbed from one of those operations is bought on the same terms as any other truck, with the farm plate registration kept alongside the title.
The questions we get asked in Monsey
- My tri-axle hauls stone out of West Nyack. Can you pick it up at the quarry lot?West Nyack Quarry sits 6 miles east and the Haverstraw Quarry & Mill 7.7 miles north-east, by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listings, and we collect from the lots that serve them. Give us the address and a contact at the gate.
- Do the paused clean-truck rules affect selling my truck here?New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation shows enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules as paused, so neither one blocks the sale of a truck based in Monsey.
- I run a small moving company in Monsey. Will you take our box vans?Household goods are hauled by 15 of the 125 Monsey carriers in FMCSA’s census, and their vans and box trucks are trucks we buy. Have the title, the registration and photos of the box ready.
