North Tonawanda’s carriers, by what they carry
Of the 391 active motor carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census with a North Tonawanda address, 171 tick general freight as a cargo they haul. If your box truck, straight truck or tractor moved general loads around Niagara County, tell us the body type and the kind of freight it carried so we can match the right questions to it.
Machinery and large objects appear on 57 carrier registrations in the city, and logs, poles, beams and lumber on 45, according to the same FMCSA census. Lowboys, flatbeds and log trucks fit that description; send photos of the deck, the trailer coupling and the cab, plus the plate on the door, along with the VIN.
The census also lists 35 North Tonawanda carriers hauling motor vehicles. A car hauler or rollback sells the same way as any other unit with us: have the title in your name, the current registration and any service records you kept in one folder before we talk.
Private fleets on New York roads
Of the city’s registered carriers, only 31 run interstate while 360 stay intrastate, by FMCSA’s count, and 304 are private fleets hauling their own goods. A truck that spent its working life on New York routes will usually still be parked at the shop, plant or yard it served, and that is where we collect it.
Drivers tell the story in a second way: FMCSA’s carrier census records 841 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 217 beyond it. Among the 69 carriers reporting annual mileage to FMCSA, the median truck logged 10,000 miles a year. If your figures differ, give us the odometer reading as it stands and we will work from that.
The three biggest fleets on FMCSA’s census here run 72, 56 and 53 power units, with 26, 112 and 52 drivers respectively. Selling several units at once from a yard like that is one conversation with us; list each VIN and where each truck sits on the lot.
What the Niagara inspection lanes logged
Between late August 2024 and late August 2026, inspectors stopped 205 trucks belonging to North Tonawanda carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median build year of that group at 2019. Have the model year, make and engine on hand when you reach us; those three details answer most of our first questions.
Just under three in ten of those 205 checked trucks, 29.8 percent by the FMCSA roadside tally, carried a model year a decade or more back. Whatever the year on yours, bring the most recent inspection report if you have it, since it confirms the VIN, the axle setup and the plate in one document.
Fuel terminals, rail yards and the quarry
The Energy Information Administration places the Tonawanda petroleum product terminal 4.6 miles south-west of the city and the Buffalo Terminal 4.8 miles in that direction. Fuel tankers and service trucks that worked those docks can stay parked near the terminal; give us the gate contact and the hours the lot is open.
Two rail yards sit close by on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Kenmore, 5.6 miles south, and Foote, 7.8 miles north-west. Further south, Transflo CSXT lies 11.3 miles out and Norfolk Southern TBT 11.7 miles to the south-east, both liquid bulk terminals listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor shuttled loads between those rail points, tell us which ones and where it is parked now.
To the north-east, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Amrize Lockport Quarry, a crushed-stone operation 10.7 miles away. Dump trucks and tri-axles that hauled stone out of Lockport are units we buy; photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab help us see the setup before pickup.
Plants, builders and dairy country
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts recorded 7,093 jobs in North Tonawanda, with 1,610 of them, 22.7 percent, in manufacturing. Construction held 399 jobs, transportation and warehousing 313, and wholesale trade 225 in that same LEHD series. Trucks that delivered to or from those plants and sites are usually parked at the employer’s yard, so give us the address and a name to ask for.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau show 121 construction establishments in the city and 4 warehousing ones. A contractor with a dump truck, a stake-bed or a mixer on the lot can sell it straight from the job yard; have the title and registration ready.
Across Niagara County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 628 farms, with milk, corn and soybeans at the top. A grain truck or milk hauler parked on a farm outside town is collected right there; tell us the road and which barn or field it sits beside.
The Wheatfield Street DMV and state emissions rules
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 500 Wheatfield St is 0.6 miles from the centre of North Tonawanda. If the title is lost, apply for the duplicate at that office first, then tell us when you expect it in the mail.
For a North Tonawanda seller, the state DEC currently shows its Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules with enforcement on pause. Neither rule changes what you need to sell a diesel truck to us here: a title in your name, the registration and the keys.
