Oakdale’s seventy intrastate outfits
Of the 75 Oakdale carriers active in FMCSA’s carrier census, just 5 haul across a state line while the other 70 keep their loads inside New York. A tractor or straight truck from one of those in-state outfits is most likely parked at a yard or a driveway in Suffolk County, so give us that address and we collect it where it stands.
Of those 75 carriers, 55 run private fleets, hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire, according to the same FMCSA census. If your truck belongs to a business like that, have the company’s name on the title match the person signing, or bring a letter showing you can sign for the firm.
Fleets here are small: the three biggest Oakdale carriers on FMCSA’s register list 16, 11 and 10 power units. Whether you are selling one truck or several from a group that size, send the VIN for each unit and one photo set per truck so nothing gets mixed up.
Freight, refuse and liquid loads
General freight is the most common cargo line, with 27 Oakdale carriers listing it in FMCSA’s census, followed by garbage and refuse at 9, and liquids or gases and utility work at 6 each. Box trucks, roll-offs, rear loaders, tankers and bucket trucks all fit what we buy; tell us the body type along with the chassis.
Six miles north-east of town, the Energy Information Administration lists the North Holtsville petroleum product terminal, and East Setauket’s terminal is 12.5 miles north. If your tank truck loaded at either one, mention the product it carried, and include photos of the tank’s data plate with the cab and frame.
For refuse units, which 9 carriers here report under FMCSA’s census, photograph the packer body and the hopper as well as the cab. Tell us whether the container or cans go with the truck or stay with your route.
Brookhaven rail, Roanoke sand, Port Jefferson
Brookhaven Rail Terminal, 11.9 miles north-east, shows up both as a rail yard on the North American Rail Network and as a liquid bulk terminal in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. A truck that shuttles loads off that yard can be collected right from your lot near it; give us a contact who can unlock the gate.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Roanoke Sand & Gravel 14.6 miles north-east and Broad Hollow Estates 15.2 miles west, both sand and gravel operations. Dump trucks and tri-axles that worked those pits are on our list; send the body length and the axle setup with your photos.
Port Jefferson, a port named by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, lies 15.7 miles north, and the Global liquid bulk terminal is 22.6 miles west. If your truck is parked at either end of that run rather than in Oakdale, that is where we pick it up.
Wholesale, contractors and nursery growers
Wholesale trade accounted for 186 of Oakdale’s 2,650 jobs in 2023 and construction for 87, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Delivery trucks from wholesale accounts and flatbeds or dumps from job sites both qualify; note what the truck carried so we know which body questions to ask.
Forty-six construction firms operate around Oakdale, a count that comes from the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A contractor selling a work truck should have the registration current or a note of when it lapsed, plus the title in the business name.
Suffolk County had 578 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with potted flowering plants, horses and hogs among its top lines. Nursery box trucks and livestock haulers parked on a farm can be collected there; tell us how the yard is reached.
Ages and miles on Oakdale trucks
Thirty Oakdale trucks stopped for checks between September 2024 and August 2026 show up in FMCSA roadside inspection records: their median model year is 2016, and 50 percent are ten years old or more. Whatever year yours is, give us the model year and the engine make with the VIN.
Eighteen Oakdale carriers gave FMCSA their annual mileage, and the median truck among them logged 14,143 miles a year. Read the odometer off the dash and photograph it, since that reading is one of the first things we ask for.
Drivers mostly stay close: FMCSA’s census shows 140 Oakdale drivers working within 100 miles and 13 going farther. A truck that stays near home is easy to reach, so a street address and a time window are usually all we need.
Title, Hauppauge and the clean truck rules
Up Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge, 7.2 miles from Oakdale, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles keeps its office at number 250. If your title is lost, that office handles a replacement; start the request there before we schedule collection.
Both the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rule are shown with enforcement paused on New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation site. Neither rule is a step in selling your truck to us; have the title, registration and any service records ready instead.
The questions we get asked in Oakdale
- Can the truck stay at our yard by the North Holtsville fuel terminal? The Energy Information Administration places that terminal 6.3 miles north-east of Oakdale, and we collect from there or wherever the truck is parked. Send the yard address and a name at the gate who can let us in.
- Which office replaces a missing New York title for an Oakdale owner?Hauppauge’s DMV office at 250 Veterans Memorial Highway, 7.2 miles from Oakdale, is run by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and handles replacement titles. Once the duplicate arrives, a photo of it is enough to get collection on the calendar.
- Will you buy a rear loader off an Oakdale refuse route?Nine Oakdale carriers list garbage and refuse cargo in FMCSA’s census, and packer trucks like theirs are ones we buy. Send the VIN, photos of the body and cab, and the odometer reading.
