Tri-axles between the Walworth pit and the Palmyra gravel beds
The Walworth Plant, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 4.3 miles south-west of Ontario, is the closest working pit to town. If your dump truck or tri-axle loads there, it can stay parked at your yard or by the scale house while we arrange collection. Pass along who holds the Walworth gate key and when the scale house is staffed.
Further out, the PENFIELD PLANT stone quarry lies 11.3 miles west and the PALMYRA PLANT sand and gravel operation 13 miles south-east, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. Syracusa Sand & Gravel Inc, 19.4 miles south-west, is a third aggregate site on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. A truck that rotates between these pits can be picked up at whichever one it finished the season on; tell us which, and photograph the body, the hoist and the VIN plate before you call.
Ontario flatbeds, log trailers and freight boxes
General freight is the cargo for 93 of the 219 active Ontario carriers on FMCSA’s census. The FMCSA census then lists machinery and large objects at 55 carriers, logs, poles, beams and lumber at 42, and farm supplies at 31. Whether yours is a flatbed for equipment, a log trailer tractor or a box truck, have the registration and the title together before we talk.
Of those 219 operations, 201 stay intrastate and just 18 cross state lines, according to the same FMCSA census, and 166 are private fleets running their own goods. A private-fleet truck often has its records kept by the business rather than the driver, so ask the office manager for the service file and the cab card before listing it.
Ontario’s three biggest operations run 26, 17 and 15 power units, FMCSA’s carrier census shows. If you are an owner-operator with one tractor, the sale works the same way as a fleet’s: one title, one set of photos, one pickup address.
Short hauls around Wayne and Monroe
Drivers attached to Ontario carriers mostly work a short circle: FMCSA lists 576 who stay inside a hundred-mile radius and 170 who go beyond it. A truck that comes home every night is easy to reach, so give us the yard address where it sleeps.
Ontario’s median truck logs 11,000 miles a year, going by the 45 local carriers that filed mileage with FMCSA. Note the current odometer reading and engine hours when you send photos; those two figures answer most of our early questions.
New registrations keep arriving, too: the FMCSA census records 8 new carriers in Ontario in 2025 and 6 in 2024. If you started up recently and are now changing equipment, keep your USDOT number and the title close at hand.
A 2020 median on the lakeshore’s inspected tractors
FMCSA roadside inspection records show 90 Ontario-based trucks stopped from September 2024 through August 2026, with 2020 as the median model year. Those FMCSA roadside inspection records also show 31 percent of the trucks ten or more model years old.
A truck pulled over in one of those stops left a report behind; clip it to the title. It records the VIN, the plate and the date, which lets us match the truck to its paperwork without a second visit.
Fuel racks west of Ontario, rail on both sides
West of town, the Energy Information Administration places the ROCHESTER SOUTH and ROCHESTER NORTH petroleum product terminals 19.8 and 19.9 miles out. A fuel tanker or delivery truck based near those racks can be collected where it is parked; tell us whether a terminal pass is needed to reach it.
Two rail yards bracket Ontario on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: ROCHESTER, 15.5 miles west, and LYONS, 18.4 miles south-east. Day cabs that shuttle loads to either yard can be listed with a VIN, a few photos of the frame and fifth wheel, and the location where we can find them.
Dairy country and building sites around town
Wayne County holds 863 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, corn and soybeans the leading products. Milk haulers, grain trucks and farm-supply tractors from these operations can be picked up at the farm itself; tell us which barn or lane the truck is parked by.
Construction made up 77 of Ontario’s 514 jobs in 2023, a 15 percent share, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 60 construction establishments. A contractor selling a dump or a roll-off should gather the title, registration and any annual inspection sticker paperwork.
Replacing a missing title from the Titus Avenue office
Titles in this state come from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and the nearest of its DMV offices to Ontario is the MONROE COUNTY EASTSIDE MOBILE OFFICE at 545 TITUS AVE, ROCHESTER, 16.2 miles away. If the original title is lost, apply there for a replacement before the truck changes hands.
Ontario sellers also face two state clean-truck rules on New York’s books: the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation. For both, enforcement is currently on hold. Ontario owners selling a diesel tractor need nothing extra for either rule; the title and registration are what we ask for.
The questions we get asked in Ontario
- Our tri-axle sits inside the Walworth Plant fence. Must it be hauled off the Walworth site before pickup? The Walworth Plant sits 4.3 miles south-west of Ontario on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from the site. Name whoever can unlock that quarry gate for the pickup.
- Which DMV office east of Rochester reissues a missing title for an Ontario truck? The MONROE COUNTY EASTSIDE MOBILE OFFICE at 545 TITUS AVE, ROCHESTER, 16.2 miles from town, is a New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office that handles title replacement.
- Does the ACT or HD Omnibus rule affect an Ontario diesel sale?Ontario owners are under the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, and enforcement of both is on hold. Neither adds a step to selling your truck to us.
