Thirty-nine small carriers, mostly working inside New York
Of the 39 Orange Lake carriers still active on the federal register, FMCSA’s carrier census files 34 as New York-only intrastate outfits and just 5 as interstate. If your tractor or straight truck has only ever run New York routes, say so up front, along with the plate class on the registration, so we can line up the paperwork for a New York pickup.
Thirty-three of those carriers are private fleets moving their own goods, according to the same federal census. A contractor, a landscaper or a supplier who owns one truck for the business can sell it the same way a for-hire hauler would: send the VIN, a few photos of the cab and the chassis, and the address where the truck is parked.
The three biggest fleets in town run 12, 8 and 5 power units, per FMCSA registration figures, with 14, 2 and 1 drivers on file. Selling several units out of a yard that size is one conversation; list each VIN and tell us which ones share a lot.
General freight, garbage routes, machinery and timber
Fourteen Orange Lake carriers list general freight as a cargo in FMCSA’s census, seven list garbage and refuse, seven list machinery and large objects, and six haul logs, poles, beams and lumber. Box trucks, roll-off and packer bodies, lowboys and log trailers all fall inside that mix, and we buy each of them.
If yours is a refuse truck or a roll-off, photograph the body and the hoist or packer controls as well as the tractor, and tell us whether the body comes with the chassis. For a lowboy or lumber rig, note whether the trailer is part of the sale and have its own title or registration ready alongside the tractor’s.
Stewart, the Newburgh terminals and Danskammer
Stewart IAP lies 2.5 miles south of Orange Lake and Stewart Annex about 3 miles south, both listed as military installations by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Trucks parked at a contractor yard near the base or a gated lot can still be collected; just tell us about any gate or escort requirement before the pickup is booked.
Toward the river, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals, Newburgh and North Newburgh, 5.7 and 5.8 miles south-east, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics adds the Global and Warex Terminals Corporation liquid bulk terminals at 5.8 and 5.9 miles. Tank trucks and fuel-delivery straight trucks that load at those racks are on our list; include the tank’s capacity and any hazmat placard history when you write.
The Danskammer Plant rail yard sits 7.3 miles east on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and 9.3 miles south the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Callahan & Nannini Shale crushed-stone quarry. Dump trucks and tri-axles that run aggregate from a pit like that can be picked up at the quarry gate or at your yard, whichever is easier to reach.
Model years and yearly miles around Stewart
Across 340 trucks inspected between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2018, and 39.4 percent of those trucks were ten or more model years old. Whatever the year on yours, the title and the VIN plate are what we confirm first, so photograph the plate on the door jamb.
Among the nine local outfits that give FMCSA a yearly mileage, the middle truck logs 7,000 miles. Short local mileage like that fits the census picture of drivers staying near home: 58 drivers on file work within 100 miles and 9 go beyond it. Send a clear photo of the odometer with your other pictures so the reading is on record.
Wholesale jobs, builders and dairy barns
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 2,127 jobs in Orange Lake, with wholesale trade holding 267 of them (12.6 percent), manufacturing 112 (5.3 percent) and construction 80 (3.8 percent). Delivery trucks working wholesale accounts and flatbeds on manufacturing runs are both types we collect from the business lot where they are kept.
Builders far outnumber warehouses around Orange Lake: 182 construction establishments against 3 in warehousing, in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If a dump truck, a crane truck or a material hauler belongs to a building firm, have the company’s name on the title match the person signing, or bring a letter showing who can sign for it.
Orange County had 613 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and its leading products were milk, horses and other equine, and potted flowering plants. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and nursery box trucks parked on a farm can be collected there; give us directions to the barn or shed, since rural driveways are not always on the map.
Titles, the Newburgh DMV and New York’s clean-truck rules
Title work for Orange Lake owners goes through the state DMV branch at 128 Broadway in Newburgh, a 5.1-mile trip, as the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles lists it. If your title cannot be found, apply for a duplicate there and mention the application when you contact us.
Two state regulations, the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rule, are both listed as enforcement paused by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Neither one stands between an Orange Lake owner and a sale today; a clean title, the registration and the keys are what we need at pickup.
