On the waterfront
Fuel terminals beside the harbor
The Energy Information Administration lists the OYSTER BAY petroleum product terminal 0.5 miles north-east of the hamlet, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Global liquid bulk terminal 0.6 miles out in that same direction. A tanker or fuel delivery truck that loads at either rack may well be parked a few minutes from the water when we come for it, so give us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Westward, about 6.6 miles away, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records a second Global Companies liquid bulk terminal, and GLENNWOOD LANDING appears in Energy Information Administration listings 6.7 miles west as a petroleum product terminal. If your tank truck shuttled between these north-shore racks, send the tank’s inspection certificates along with photos of the barrel, valves and cab, and note which product it carried last.
Sixty-two carriers, mostly hauling for themselves
Of the 62 Oyster Bay operators in FMCSA’s carrier census, 53 are private fleets hauling their own goods instead of freight for hire. A landscaper’s dump truck, a contractor’s stake body or a nursery’s box truck from a fleet like that sells the same way as a tractor: have the title in the business’s name and a letter from whoever is authorised to sign for the company.
Of those 62 operators, just 6 hold interstate authority while 56 run intrastate only, according to the same FMCSA census. For a truck that has never left New York, the state registration and the most recent New York inspection sticker are the papers to photograph first.
New registrations stay small here: FMCSA’s census shows 3 new carriers in 2024 and 2 in 2025. If you set up one of those young operations and are now selling its only truck, the USDOT number and the operating authority paperwork help us match the vehicle to the business that owns it.
Pallets, excavators, beams and bins
General freight is the cargo listed by 16 local carriers in the FMCSA census, with machinery and large objects named by 10. Box trucks and flatbeds behind those two lines are welcome; tell us the body length, the liftgate or ramp setup, and whether a trailer comes with the tractor.
Logs, poles, beams and lumber appear on 8 Oyster Bay filings in FMCSA’s carrier census, and garbage, refuse and trash on 7. For a roll-off, rear loader or log truck, photos of the hoist, the packer body or the grapple and its controls let us see the working equipment alongside the chassis.
FMCSA’s carrier census also lists local fleets of 18, 17 and 14 power units, with 18, 20 and 16 drivers respectively. Selling several units from an operation that size works as one conversation: send a list with each VIN, its body type and the address where it sits.
Home by night on the north shore
Oyster Bay filings in FMCSA’s carrier census report 161 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 19 working farther out. Most trucks here therefore return to a local yard each night, which makes that yard the natural pickup point; tell us whether a loaded trailer or equipment needs to come off first.
Seventeen Oyster Bay carriers gave FMCSA a yearly mileage, and their median truck covers 5,000 miles. Read the odometer off the dash and include it in your first message with the VIN, since that pair is what our questions are built around.
Further afield, the North American Rail Network from the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maps JAMAICA YARD 18.4 miles south-west and the JAMAICA yard 19 miles out. Port Jefferson, NY, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists as a port, lies 23.8 miles east; a truck parked near any of these can be collected where it stands.
Hamlet jobs, Nassau farms and a sand pit
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 4,179 jobs in Oyster Bay, among them 181 in manufacturing, 154 in construction, 139 in transportation and warehousing, and 87 in wholesale trade. Delivery straight trucks, cube vans and contractor dumps all sit behind those sectors; registration and any service invoices you keep in the cab should be photographed too.
South-east by 9.2 miles, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Broad Hollow Estates Inc as a sand and gravel operation. Dump trucks and tri-axles hauling aggregate from a pit like that are trucks we buy, and if yours stays parked at the site, a contact on the property who can let us in is the main thing we need.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 29 farms across Nassau County, with equine and cut flowers and cultivated greens at the top. A horse-farm stake truck or a florist’s refrigerated box from one of them can be sold from the farm itself; send the title, a photo of the reefer unit and the farm’s gate address.
A Hempstead Turnpike title counter, and emissions on hold
Bethpage’s office of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, at 4031 Hempstead Tpke, sits about 10.1 miles from Oyster Bay. If the title is missing or still shows a lienholder that has been satisfied, that is the office to visit for a duplicate or a lien release before we collect the truck.
On emissions, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation lists both its Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and its Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulation with enforcement paused. Neither changes what you need to sell a diesel truck here: a clear title, the registration and your ID.
The questions we get asked in Oyster Bay
- My fuel truck sits at the harbor terminal in Oyster Bay; must I move it first? The OYSTER BAY petroleum product terminal is half a mile north-east of town on Energy Information Administration listings, and we collect from yards like that one. Tell us the terminal’s gate procedure and who signs us in.
- Which DMV office serves an Oyster Bay seller with no title in hand?Bethpage, 10.1 miles away at 4031 Hempstead Tpke, has the nearest New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office. Bring proof of ownership and ID to request a duplicate.
- The title is in my Oyster Bay company’s name rather than mine; how is that handled?Fifty-three of the 62 carriers in FMCSA’s census for Oyster Bay are private fleets, so company-titled trucks are routine here. Send the title in the business’s name and the name of the person authorised to sign.
- My tri-axle is parked out at the Broad Hollow sand pit; is pickup possible from there?Broad Hollow Estates Inc, a sand and gravel operation the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 9.2 miles south-east, is the kind of site we collect from. Give us the pit address and an on-site contact.
