Pits off Montauk Highway, east of the hamlet
Westhampton Property Associates Inc runs a sand and gravel operation 3.6 miles north-east of Remsenburg-Speonk, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and East Coast Mines & Materials works another 6 miles east. Dump trucks and roll-offs that load at either pit are part of what we collect. If yours is parked at a pit gate rather than a driveway, tell us which operation it sits at and who holds the key.
A truck that has spent seasons hauling aggregate tends to carry a stack of scale tickets and service invoices in the cab. Gather those, the registration and the title in one folder before we call, and photograph the body, the hoist and the VIN plate in daylight so the pictures match what you tell us.
Airfield and tank farms
Airfield to the east, fuel terminals to the north
Francis S Gabreski Airport, listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics as a military installation, lies 3.6 miles east of the hamlet. Northward, that same federal agency places United Riverhead Terminal, a liquid bulk site, 11.5 miles away, and the Energy Information Administration records the RIVERHEAD petroleum product terminal at 11.6 miles. Tank trucks and fuel haulers that run Old Country Road between those points are trucks we purchase.
Should your tanker be parked inside a terminal fence near Riverhead, we arrange collection there instead of asking you to move it to Speonk. Send the terminal name, the gate contact and any site access papers the truck carries, and we plan the visit around the terminal’s rules.
Sidings and fuel storage past Yaphank
Twelve miles west, Brookhaven Rail Terminal shows up twice in federal records: the North American Rail Network maps it as a rail yard, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists it as a liquid bulk terminal. The Energy Information Administration adds the NORTH HOLTSVILLE petroleum product terminal, 18.9 miles out along the same westward line.
Drivers who shuttle loads between the rail sidings and Long Island customers often leave a tractor at the yard between shifts. Give us the yard location and the unit’s VIN, and we will collect it from Brookhaven without the truck coming back east to the hamlet first.
Seventy carriers, almost all working inside New York
Remsenburg-Speonk is home to 70 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and all but 3 keep their loads inside New York, while 61 of the 70 are private fleets moving their own goods. In that same census, general freight leads the cargo types with 22 carriers, machinery and large objects follow at 18, garbage and refuse at 14, and logs, poles and lumber at 7.
Of the drivers those carriers report, 156 stay within a hundred-mile radius and 30 travel beyond it, again per the FMCSA census. Sixteen hamlet carriers file yearly mileage with FMCSA, and their middle figure is 5,500 miles per truck. If yours is a local refuse packer or a lowboy kept on the East End, have its registration and inspection sticker dates on hand when you reach us.
FMCSA’s records show the three biggest fleets in town running 33, 28 and 21 power units, with 15, 7 and 18 drivers respectively. Owners selling several units at once can send one list of VINs, and we handle each truck on that list.
Job-site haulers and East End growers
Construction accounts for 152 of the 875 jobs counted here in 2023, a 17.4 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. County Business Patterns, from the same bureau, records 32 construction establishments. Flatbeds, stake bodies and equipment haulers from those contractors are trucks we buy, wherever the job site has them parked.
Across the county, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture tallies 578 farms, with potted flowering plants, horses and hogs leading the list. Nursery box trucks and livestock haulers from those operations qualify too; bring the farm plate registration along with the title.
Titles here are issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and its RIVERHEAD office stands at 200 OLD COUNTRY RD, RIVERHEAD, 8.8 miles from Remsenburg-Speonk. If the title is missing, the DMV’s replacement process runs through its offices, and that Riverhead counter is the closest one to the hamlet.
Bring the registration, your photo identification and any lien release to that office. Once the replacement title is in your hands, send us a photo of the front and back so the sale can go ahead.
ACT and HD Omnibus enforcement for Speonk owners
New York adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation reports that enforcement of both is paused.
A seller in Speonk with a diesel tractor or box truck can reach us with the title, the registration and the VIN, and we take care of the collection from there.
