Village outfits
Fourteen carriers at the top of the state
Of the 14 Rouses Point carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, five list general freight, three haul logs, poles, beams or lumber, two carry garbage and refuse, and two move intermodal containers. If your tractor, log truck or roll-off came out of one of those lines, tell us which, and send the VIN with photos of the cab, the frame and whatever body or trailer coupling it carries.
Rouses Point outfits run small: the three biggest fleets on the federal register have three, two and two power units, each with two drivers. A one- or two-truck owner selling here deals with us directly, and we arrange collection at the yard, the farm or the driveway where the truck is parked.
Who hauls where
Mostly in-state hauling and private fleets
Nine of the village’s carriers are registered for intrastate work and four for interstate, according to FMCSA’s carrier census, and eight run as private fleets moving their own goods. If the truck carried your own business’s freight, have the registration in the business name ready alongside the title so the seller on paper matches the person we speak to.
New registrations are rare in Rouses Point: the federal carrier register shows one new carrier in 2025 and none in 2024. If you are winding down an older operating authority, keep the USDOT number handy when you contact us; it helps us match the truck to the outfit that ran it.
Quarry and yard
South toward Plattsburgh: the quarry and Bluff Point
Plattsburgh Quarries, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 20 miles south of Rouses Point, sits on the road most local dump trucks and tri-axles already know. A dump truck that hauled stone from there can stay parked wherever it is; give us the address and a gate contact and the pickup is planned around the site.
Bluff Point Yard, a rail yard about 24.7 miles south on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, is the nearest rail point in that direction. Two Rouses Point carriers list intermodal containers, so a day cab that worked that run should come with photos of the fifth wheel and the tires along with the cab.
Manufacturing holds a third of local jobs
Rouses Point had 409 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and 142 of them, a 34.7 percent share, were in manufacturing. A box truck or tractor that served a plant here is something we buy; send any service records you kept along with the photos.
If the truck belonged to a manufacturer’s own shipping operation rather than a for-hire carrier, tell us who holds the title. A company truck needs a signature from someone authorised to sign for the business, and sorting that before collection keeps the handover simple.
Milk, maple syrup and horses across the county
Around the village, 536 farms operate in Clinton County, and milk, maple syrup and equine lead the list in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Farm trucks, milk tankers, stake bodies and horse-hauling rigs all qualify, and we collect from the farm itself.
A truck registered as farm equipment or used only on your own land still needs a title in your name before it changes hands. Find it, or start a replacement, before you call, and send pictures of the bed or tank along with the cab.
Plattsburgh DMV
A missing title goes through the PLATTSBURGH DMV office
Rouses Point owners deal with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and its PLATTSBURGH office at 137 Margaret St, Plattsburgh, is 20.6 miles south of the village. If the title is missing, a replacement certificate comes through that agency, either in person at one of its DMV offices or by the process on dmv.ny.gov.
New York also has two clean-truck regulations on the books for heavy trucks, the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation. For both, the state has paused enforcement, as its Department of Environmental Conservation posts. A Rouses Point seller needs nothing extra for either one; the title and the registration cover the sale.
