The mill just west of Saugerties South
At 1.4 miles west, Mt Marion Pit and Mill is close enough that a truck hauling its industrial minerals may be parked nearer the mill than the owner’s driveway, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration listing. If your dump truck or tri-axle sits at that site, tell us who controls the gate and what hours a flatbed can come in.
For a truck that has spent its life on the mill road, photograph the dump body, the cab interior and the plate on the door jamb carrying the VIN. With those three pictures and the title in hand, we can look the truck over before anyone heads out to Mt Marion.
Quarries up and across the Hudson
Stone and gravel along the river, both banks
Heading north up the river, Catskill Quarry (ICC) is a crushed-stone quarry 9.1 miles away, and Kearney Pit, a sand and gravel operation, lies 12.5 miles to the north-east on the federal mine register kept by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Aggregate haulers that rotate between these two often end up parked at whichever one finished the last job, so give us that yard’s address rather than your home address.
Across the Hudson to the east, RW-Roe-Jan appears as a sand and gravel operation 7.9 miles out, while East Kingston, a crushed-stone quarry, sits 7.4 miles south, both counted by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A tri-axle or tandem that splits its weeks between those pits can be loaded at either one, provided the operator lets a rollback through.
Fuel and freight below town
Tank terminals and the Kingston rail yard
Energy Information Administration records place a petroleum product terminal 9.2 miles south of Saugerties South and a second one 16.2 miles to the north-east. When a fuel tanker or a tractor that pulled tank trailers between those sites is the truck you are selling, note whether the trailer goes with it and who holds the title for each.
The North American Rail Network, which the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain, puts the Kingston rail yard 8.4 miles south. Day cabs that worked the yard can be picked up from a lot near the tracks if you tell us the lot’s rules on removing a vehicle and the name of someone who can let us in.
Fair Street, Kingston
Owners in Saugerties South who cannot find the title go to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, whose Kingston office stands at 244 Fair St, Kingston, 9.5 miles from town. The department’s replace-a-title-certificate page explains the application, and the Kingston counter can take it in person.
Bring the registration and photo identification on that trip, and if the truck is owned by a business, the paperwork showing who may sign for it. Once the replacement arrives, keep it unsigned until the day we load the truck so the names match what we write on the bill of sale.
Horses, corn and cattle
Farm trucks from horse barns and cornfields
Saugerties South sits among farmland where equine operations lead, followed by corn and cattle, and USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 486 farms in Ulster County. Stake trucks, livestock haulers and grain trucks kept in a barn or a field are collected right where they stand; tell us whether the farm lane holds up after rain.
A horse farm selling a truck that pulled a gooseneck or a stock trailer should say whether the hitch and trailer are part of the sale. Send a photo of the bed and the hitch along with the title, and list the farm’s address so we can plan the route in.
Local work, local trucks, and the rules in Albany
Saugerties South held 227 jobs in 2023 under the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, a small base where a contractor’s dump truck or a service van is often parked beside the owner’s home. If that describes yours, the driveway is fine as a pickup point; just tell us how much room a truck needs to turn around.
New York has adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, and enforcement of each is paused. Saugerties South owners selling a diesel truck today need nothing from either rule to complete the sale.
