Glenwood Landing
Fuel terminals a mile south of the village
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places a Global Companies liquid bulk terminal 1.1 miles south of Sea Cliff, and the Energy Information Administration lists the GLENNWOOD LANDING petroleum product terminal 1.2 miles in the same direction. A tank truck or tractor that loads at that waterfront is almost on the village’s doorstep, so we can collect it from a yard beside the terminals or from a driveway in Sea Cliff itself.
Further east, 6.8 miles away at Oyster Bay, the Energy Information Administration records another petroleum product terminal, and a second Global liquid bulk terminal appears at that same distance in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. If your tanker splits its loads between Glenwood Landing and Oyster Bay, tell us which lot it parks in and we will collect it there.
For a truck that has hauled fuel, keep the tank’s test and inspection certificates with the title. Send photos of the barrel, the valves and the hose reels along with the cab and the VIN plate.
Twenty-nine on the North Shore
Twenty-nine carriers, mostly private and local
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 29 active motor carriers based in Sea Cliff, and 22 of them run private fleets carrying their own goods instead of hauling for hire. The same FMCSA census registers only 2 for interstate work against 27 operating within New York, so the truck you sell is most likely plated and parked here on Long Island.
Cargo listings in that same federal census show 7 Sea Cliff carriers handling general freight, 5 moving machinery and large objects, 4 hauling logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 3 carrying dry bulk commodities. A flatbed, a lowboy, a box truck or a dump body all fit that mix, and each one is a truck we purchase.
Fleets in the village stay small: according to FMCSA, the three biggest run 6, 6 and 4 power units, each with a matching number of drivers. Selling one tractor from a six-truck operation is routine for us; send the VIN, the plate and a few photos for each unit you want to let go.
Forty-four drivers close in
Miles that stay close to home
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 44 drivers in the village working within 100 miles of home and just 4 travelling beyond that radius. That keeps most of these trucks within reach of the North Shore on any given evening, which is where we expect to meet them.
Eight local carriers report mileage in FMCSA’s census, and their median comes to 12,917 miles per truck a year. Write down the current odometer reading and the engine hours if your truck shows them; those two figures and the VIN are the first things we ask for.
Builders and gravel
Contractors, dump bodies and Broad Hollow gravel
Of the 1,975 jobs located in Sea Cliff during 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts assign 188 to construction, a 9.5 percent slice of village employment. Contractors here run dump trucks, stake bodies and equipment haulers, and any of those can be collected from a job site as easily as from a shop.
Twenty-six construction establishments show up for this North Shore area in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If a truck belongs to a contracting business rather than to you personally, have the company’s name on the title match the person signing, or bring a letter authorizing the sale.
Broad Hollow Estates Inc, a sand and gravel operation on Mine Safety and Health Administration rolls, sits 13.2 miles east of the village. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls aggregate from there into Nassau job sites is one we buy; tell us its body length and axle count when you get in touch.
Toward the boroughs
From Hempstead Harbor out to Jamaica Yard and Red Hook
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places JAMAICA YARD 12.9 miles south-west of Sea Cliff and OAK POINT 13.3 miles to the west. Trucks working freight to and from those yards still tend to come home to Nassau at night, so pickup can happen near the village.
Red Hook Container Terminal, an intermodal ramp in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, lies 21.8 miles south-west. A day cab that drays containers off that ramp can be sold from wherever it sits between Brooklyn and the North Shore; just give us the address and note any gate or height limits at the lot.
Garden City and the DEC
The Oak Street DMV office and paused emissions rules
A missing title in Sea Cliff goes through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 400 Oak St in Garden City, 8.6 miles from the village. Request the duplicate there before we arrange collection, and keep the current registration with it.
Enforcement is on hold for two state emissions measures, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, according to New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation. Neither one stands in the way of a Sea Cliff owner selling a diesel truck to us today.
Nassau County also carries 29 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by equine operations and cut flowers. A horse hauler or a flower grower’s box truck from those farms is welcome too, with the same title and registration in hand.
The questions we get asked in Sea Cliff
- Can you collect a tanker that parks at the Glenwood Landing terminals?Glenwood Landing’s petroleum terminal is 1.2 miles south of Sea Cliff on Energy Information Administration listings, and we collect from terminal yards like that one or from your own address in the village.
- My Sea Cliff truck title went missing; is Garden City the office for a duplicate? The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 400 Oak St, Garden City, is 8.6 miles away and handles duplicate titles for Sea Cliff owners.
- Do you buy from a small contractor with only a few trucks?Sea Cliff’s three biggest fleets run 6, 6 and 4 power units according to FMCSA, and we buy single trucks from operations that size all the time.
- Does the paused clean-truck enforcement affect selling my diesel truck?New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation shows enforcement of both the Advanced Clean Trucks and Low NOx Omnibus rules as paused, so neither stops a sale here.
