Sell your semi truck for cash in Shokan the easy and convenient way

Shokan is an Ulster County hamlet of 1,196 people by the Census Bureau’s count, with Kingston’s rail yard and DMV office to the east and quarries and gravel pits on several sides. The trucks registered here are small outfits hauling lumber, machinery, utility gear and general freight.

Shokan’s short list of trucking outfits

Of the 23 Shokan carriers active on FMCSA’s carrier census, 17 are private fleets that move their own owners’ goods. If your truck belonged to a contractor or a family business, that is the usual setup here, and the sale works the same way: we need the title in the owner’s name, the registration and the VIN.

On FMCSA’s carrier census, the top operation in town runs three power units with three drivers, and the next two run two trucks each. With fleets that size, the truck you are selling is often parked at the owner’s home or shop yard, so tell us the address and whether a tow rig can turn around there.

Nineteen of the Shokan carriers stay intrastate and four cross state lines, the FMCSA census shows. If yours ran out of state, keep its registration paperwork with the title when you send us photos.

Logs, machinery and utility work out of the Catskills

Nine Shokan carriers list machinery and large objects as cargo and nine list general freight on FMCSA’s census, while six haul logs, poles, beams and lumber. A log truck, a lowboy tractor or a box truck from one of these outfits is the kind of vehicle we collect, and photos of the deck, the boom or the body help us see the setup.

FMCSA’s carrier census has five Shokan outfits registered for utility cargo. Bucket and line trucks often carry extra equipment on the chassis, so list what is mounted on yours and whether the body stays with it, and include the inspection sticker in one of your photos.

Two new carriers registered in Shokan during 2025 and one in 2024, according to the FMCSA census. If you bought a used truck to start one of those authorities and are now selling it, make sure the title was transferred into your name before we schedule the pickup.

Quarries, a rail yard and fuel terminals east of town

The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the East Kingston crushed-stone quarry 12.4 miles east and Mt Marion Pit and Mill, an industrial-mineral mine, 13.1 miles east. Dump trucks and tri-axles that fed those sites are welcome here; tell us which pit the truck worked and send a photo of the bed and tailgate.

Eleven and a half miles east of Shokan, the Kingston rail yard appears on the Federal Railroad Administration and Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ North American Rail Network. A day cab parked near that Kingston yard can stay put while we arrange collection; give us a gate contact if it is behind a fence.

Fuel trucks have two terminals to the east and south-east, per the Energy Information Administration: Koscoheritagenergy’s petroleum product terminal 13.3 miles out and the Poughkeepsie terminal at 24.8 miles. For a tanker, have any tank inspection paperwork you still hold ready alongside the title.

Gravel pits to the south-west and north-east

Mombaccus Gravel, a sand and gravel operation, lies 12.7 miles south-west of Shokan on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. A truck that hauled from that pit may be parked nearer that end of the county than Shokan itself; just send the exact spot.

Further out, Catskill Quarry (ICC) sits 21.3 miles north-east and the RW-Roe-Jan sand and gravel operation 21.5 miles east, both on MSHA records. Tell us which yard between those two pits holds the truck, and we collect it right there instead of in Shokan.

Titles here are issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and its nearest listed office is Ulster County Mobile at 240 Fair St, Kingston, 10.6 miles from Shokan. If the title is lost, apply for a replacement there or through the DMV’s replace-a-title page before we pick up the truck.

Check that the name on the title matches the registration and that any lien shown has been released. If a bank held the loan, ask it for the lien release letter now, because the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles needs it before a clean title is issued.

Horses, corn, builders

Horse farms, corn fields and job sites in Ulster County

USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 486 farms in Ulster County, with equine operations leading, then corn and cattle. A livestock hauler, a grain truck or a flatbed that moved hay between those farms fits what we buy; send the trailer or body details with the cab photos.

A dump truck or rollback from a builder’s yard here can be collected where it sits, and having the registration and any service records together keeps the paperwork step short.

Paused engine rules and a Shokan sale

For Shokan owners, two state rules are in play on paper: the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, with enforcement of each paused by the Department of Environmental Conservation. Shokan owners selling a diesel tractor or straight truck do not need to sort anything out under either rule before the sale.

Keep an eye on the DEC’s heavy-duty vehicle page if you are replacing a truck, since the status of those two regulations is posted there. For the truck you are selling, the title, registration and VIN are what we ask for.

The questions we get asked in Shokan

  • Will you pick up a dump truck sitting by Mombaccus Gravel instead of in Shokan?Mombaccus Gravel is 12.7 miles south-west of Shokan on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from that side of the county too. Pass along the pit address plus whoever unlocks the Mombaccus gate.
  • Is a two- or three-truck private fleet from Shokan too small to sell to you?Seventeen of Shokan’s 23 active carriers on FMCSA’s census are private fleets, and the largest runs three power units, so small fleets are the norm here. Send the VIN and title for each truck you want to sell.
  • Does ACT or HD Omnibus hold up selling a diesel from Shokan?Shokan sellers face no step under either rule, since the Department of Environmental Conservation has enforcement of ACT and HD Omnibus paused. The sale needs the title, registration and VIN.
