Fifty-five small carriers, mostly private
Of the 55 active Sleepy Hollow carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, 44 are private fleets carrying a business’s own goods. If your truck belongs to a business like that, have the company’s registration and the name of whoever signs for the business ready, so the title transfer goes to the right party.
Only 6 of those 55 carriers are registered for interstate work and 49 stay inside New York, according to the same federal carrier census. A truck that has spent its life on New York roads will carry New York registration and a New York title; send us both, along with the VIN, when you first get in touch.
The fleets are small: the biggest one on the FMCSA register here runs 5 power units with 3 drivers, the next runs 2 with a single driver, and another has 1 truck and 2 drivers. Selling one truck out of a two- or three-truck operation is normal for us, and we can collect it from the yard or driveway where it is kept.
Refuse trucks, machinery haulers and general freight
General freight is the most common cargo among local carriers, with 16 listing it in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 12 more list garbage, refuse and trash. Roll-offs, rear loaders and box trucks from those operations are all trucks we buy; photos of the body and the chassis plate help us identify the setup before we talk.
Ten Sleepy Hollow carriers tell FMCSA they move machinery and large objects, which usually means a tractor with a lowboy or a rollback with a winch. Tell us whether the trailer or bed comes with the truck, and send a photo of each, so we know exactly what is being collected.
Household goods round out the list, carried by 5 local carriers according to the federal carrier census. Moving vans and straight trucks with lift gates are welcome; mention the gate and the body length when you write to us.
Local radius work around the village
Drivers for Sleepy Hollow carriers mostly stay close to home: FMCSA’s carrier census counts 65 working within 100 miles and 10 going beyond that. For a truck that works a short radius, it will most likely be parked locally when we come for it, so give us the street address and a time someone can hand over the keys.
Eight village carriers gave FMCSA a yearly mileage figure, and their median truck covered 10,000 miles. That is a plain figure, not a judgment; just read the odometer off the dash and include it with your first message.
New registrations have been steady and modest, with 3 new carriers in 2024 and 2 in 2025 on the FMCSA census. If you started a hauling business recently and are now selling its truck, the title may still show a lienholder; have the lien release or the lender’s contact details on hand.
Quarries to the west, rail yards to the north
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the West Nyack Quarry, a crushed-stone operation 4.8 miles west, and the Haverstraw Quarry & Mill about 7 miles to the north-west. Dump trucks and tri-axles that haul stone out of pits like these are part of what we take; if yours is sitting at a quarry lot, tell us who controls the gate so the pickup can be cleared with them.
To the north, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Harmon Shops yard 6.6 miles north and the North Croton yard at 7.9 miles. Trucks parked near either yard can be collected where they stand; give us the cross street and any access instructions.
Fuel loading points south-east and north of the village
Thirteen miles south-east, Westmore Fuel Co appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records as a liquid bulk terminal, and the Energy Information Administration lists the Westmore Fuels petroleum product terminal at the same distance. Fuel delivery trucks that load at terminals like this are trucks we buy; let us know the tank capacity and whether the meter and hose reel stay with it.
The Energy Information Administration also lists the Cortland Manor petroleum product terminal 14.4 miles north, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the NG Camp Smith training site at 15.4 miles in the same direction. Give us the address of a truck parked near Cortland Manor and we will collect it at that spot.
Titles, roads and state rules
A lost New York title is replaced through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, whose White Plains office at 1 Maple Ave sits 7.5 miles from Sleepy Hollow. Start the duplicate there before the sale if you can, and keep the receipt with your registration so we can see the request is under way.
Sleepy Hollow has 6 spans in the National Bridge Inventory, and not one is posted for weight or sits below a 14-foot clearance. A tall box truck or a loaded lowboy has no posted bridge in the village to route around when we collect it.
Enforcement is paused on two state rules, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, per New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation. Neither one changes what you need to sell a diesel truck here: the title, the registration and a photo ID.
Village job sites and Westchester’s equine farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 3,345 jobs located in Sleepy Hollow, 125 of them in construction. A contractor’s dump truck, flatbed or stake body coming off one of those job sites can be picked up at the site itself; tell us the address and whether the truck needs to be moved before a set day.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 108 farms in Westchester County, led by equine operations and growers of potted flowering and foliage plants. Horse haulers and nursery delivery trucks from those farms are trucks we buy, and the farm’s lane is a fine place to collect from.
The questions we get asked in Sleepy Hollow
- Where would a Sleepy Hollow truck owner go for a duplicate New York title? The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office in White Plains, at 1 Maple Ave, is 7.5 miles away and handles duplicate titles. Apply there, keep the receipt, and tell us it is pending when you contact us.
- My tri-axle is parked at the West Nyack quarry yard, west of the village. Can the pickup happen at the quarry?West Nyack Quarry sits 4.8 miles west on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from yards like that directly. Give us the gate contact and the location of the truck in the yard.
- Do you buy garbage trucks from small Westchester haulers?Twelve Sleepy Hollow carriers list garbage, refuse and trash as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, and their roll-offs and packers are trucks we purchase. Photograph the packer body, the frame rails and the door-jamb VIN plate for us.
- Does New York’s paused ACT and Low NOx enforcement matter when I sell a Westchester diesel?New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation shows enforcement of Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus as paused. For the sale itself, what we need is the title, the registration and your ID.
