Two yards, one mile
Bison and Frontier yards, a short hop apart
Sloan is flanked by two rail yards, BISON 0.6 miles to its east and FRONTIER 0.6 miles to its north-west, on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that shuttles trailers or containers between those two yards may well be parked inside a fenced lot when we come for it, so tell us who holds the gate key and whether a yard pass is needed.
Just 0.3 miles south-east, a Buffalo rail intermodal ramp appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings, with a second Buffalo ramp 5.7 miles south-west. If your tractor pulled boxes off either ramp, send the VIN, a clear photo of the fifth wheel and the cab interior, and note which ramp it last worked so our driver knows the approach.
Tankers by the tracks
Tank work along the Norfolk Southern and CSX lines
Norfolk Southern TBT, a liquid bulk terminal, stands 0.2 miles east of town according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and that agency also lists Transflo CSXT, another liquid bulk transfer site, 1.6 miles west. Tankers and the tractors that pull them out of transload sites like these are a fit for us; keep the tank’s inspection certificates and any cleaning records together with the title.
Per the Energy Information Administration, the BUFFALO petroleum product terminal lies 2.7 miles south-west. Should your rig be sitting near the terminal rather than at home in Sloan, give us that address and a contact on site, and the pickup is planned around where it actually stands.
Of the 11 active Sloan carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, 8 keep to intrastate routes, only 3 cross state lines, and 6 are private fleets carrying their own goods. For an owner of a private-fleet box truck or a single intrastate tractor, the New York registration and the title are the two papers to find first.
Six of those carriers haul general freight, three carry garbage and refuse, two move household goods and two haul logs, poles, beams and lumber, by the same FMCSA census. Roll-off and rear-load refuse units, moving vans and log trucks therefore all belong on the list of equipment we will look at from this town.
Of the drivers those Sloan carriers report to FMCSA, 23 work within 100 miles and 3 range further. FMCSA’s census also lists the three biggest local fleets at 8, 7 and 3 power units, with 6, 7 and 4 drivers. Small operations like these can sell one unit at a time; photos of each side, the odometer and the VIN plate are what to send for every truck.
Jobs in town, dairy and crops across Erie County
Construction held 53 of Sloan’s 471 jobs in 2023, an 11.3 percent share, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Dump bodies, flatbeds and service trucks from contractors in that sector are trucks we buy, and a short list of the body maker and any lift or hoist inspections helps.
Erie County has 918 farms, with milk, corn and soybeans at the top, as reported in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A grain truck or milk hauler parked at a farm outside Sloan can stay right there; send us the farm road address and tell us if the lane is soft in spring.
Title papers and the Cheektowaga office
A lost title for a Sloan truck goes to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, whose CHEEKTOWAGA office is 3.5 miles away at 2122 George Urban Blvd, Depew. Request the duplicate there before we set a collection date.
If a lender is still shown on the New York title, bring the lien release along with the title itself. Having both, plus current registration, lets the sale close on the first visit to the truck.
Toward the lake docks
Buffalo Dock and the waterfront side
Listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the BUFFALO DOCK mineral processing plant is 4.6 miles south-west of Sloan. Trucks hauling stone or processed material from a plant like that are ones we will collect where they sit.
For a truck kept on a plant site, tell us the gate procedure and a phone number for the person who will meet us at the entrance.
The questions we get asked in Sloan
- My tractor sits at the intermodal ramp just south-east of Sloan, a few blocks from home. Can you collect it from that ramp? That Buffalo ramp is 0.3 miles from Sloan by Bureau of Transportation Statistics figures, and we collect the truck there. Give us the lot address and who can let our driver in.
- Sloan owner here with no title in hand: which state office on George Urban Blvd sorts that out?The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles CHEEKTOWAGA office, 2122 George Urban Blvd in Depew, sits 3.5 miles from town and handles duplicate titles.
- Sloan garbage route, one rear-load packer to sell: does that kind of refuse body interest you?Three of Sloan’s 11 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census haul garbage and refuse, and their roll-off and packer trucks are equipment we buy. A photo of the packer or roll-off body beside one of the VIN plate starts it.
