Two crushed-stone quarries within five miles
Barely a mile and a tenth south-west of the hamlet, by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s mapping, West Nyack Quarry crushes stone, at 1.1 miles. A dump truck or tri-axle that has hauled aggregate out of that pit can stay parked at the yard or the driveway where it sits; we collect it there, so send us the street address and the name of whoever holds the keys.
Haverstraw Quarry & Mill, another crushed-stone site, is 4.1 miles north of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. If your truck carried stone from Haverstraw, photograph the body, the tailgate and the hoist along with the cab and the VIN plate, and tell us what the bed was set up to haul.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts include 52 in mining, quarrying and extraction among the 2,971 jobs located in Valley Cottage in 2023. A quarry truck sold by its owner-operator needs only the title in that owner’s name and a current registration to get started.
Contractor trucks
Construction work in a Rockland County hamlet
Construction accounts for 517 of the 2,971 jobs placed in Valley Cottage, or 17.4 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Contractors with a stake body, roll-off or crane truck parked behind the shop can list each unit separately, with its VIN and title, and we will go through them one at a time.
Those builders work out of 24 construction establishments in and around Valley Cottage, a tally kept by the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A small builder retiring one truck from a mixed yard should note which trailers or attachments stay behind, so the pickup takes only the unit being sold.
Of the 64 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places here, 11 list machinery and large objects as cargo, and 8 list logs, poles, beams or lumber. Lowboys, rollbacks and lumber flatbeds fall inside what we buy; have the trailer’s own title ready if it goes with the tractor.
Freight, refuse and private fleets in the hamlet
General freight is the most common cargo line, named by 31 of the 64 active carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census for this town, while 7 list garbage, refuse and trash. Box trucks, straight trucks and packer bodies all qualify; for a refuse truck, tell us the body make and the loading style when you first contact us.
FMCSA registrations here split into 34 intrastate and 30 interstate operations, and 47 of the carriers run private fleets carrying their own goods. A private-fleet truck titled to a business needs a signature from someone authorised to sell for that company, so line that person up before we schedule.
Per the federal carrier census, one Valley Cottage fleet runs 85 power units and 77 drivers, another 30 power units and 30 drivers, and a third 22 power units with 26 drivers. Selling several units from one fleet works the same as selling one: a list of VINs, the titles and where each truck is kept.
Home by night
Short-haul routes and the age of the fleet
The FMCSA carrier census counts 200 drivers working within 100 miles of their base here and 100 who go beyond that radius. Since most of these trucks come home each night, the collection point is usually the home yard in Valley Cottage itself or a lot near it.
Across 25 carriers that report mileage to FMCSA, the median annual figure is 10,000 miles per truck. Have the odometer reading ready when you write to us, alongside the VIN, the engine model and the transmission.
FMCSA roadside inspection records for 79 Valley Cottage trucks, inspected between September 2024 and August 2026, show a median model year of 2020, with 20.25 percent of those trucks ten or more model years old. Whatever the year on your title, send the service records you hold; they answer the questions photos leave open.
Harmon, North Croton and the fuel docks
Harmon Shops, a rail yard 6.1 miles north-east, and North Croton, another yard 6.9 miles out in the same direction, both appear on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A truck that worked those east-shore yards can be collected wherever it now sits, whether in Valley Cottage or out near the yards.
Twelve point six miles north, the Energy Information Administration lists the Cortland Manor petroleum product terminal, and Westmore Fuels appears 16.9 miles south-east on the same agency’s terminal list and on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ liquid bulk register. For a fuel tanker or a straight-truck oil delivery unit, have the tank’s inspection paperwork with the title.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places NG Camp Smith Training Site, a military installation, 13.6 miles north. If the truck you are selling is parked on or near a controlled site, give us a contact who can arrange access before we come for it.
Paperwork through the West Haverstraw counter
A short 6.6-mile drive up to 45 South Route 9W reaches West Haverstraw, where the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles keeps the counter nearest Valley Cottage. If the title has gone missing, a replacement is requested through that agency before the sale, and the West Haverstraw counter is the closest place to start.
Albany’s two heavy-duty emissions rules, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus, both sit in paused enforcement on the Department of Environmental Conservation’s site. Neither rule changes what you need to sell a diesel truck in Rockland County: the title, the registration and the keys.
Honey leads the farm output among Rockland County’s 18 farms, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A farm truck registered to one of those operations sells the same way, titled in the farm’s name and signed by its owner.
