General freight, refuse and moving carriers
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 519 active carriers in Valley Stream, and 237 of them name general freight as a cargo. If your truck is a box truck or tractor from that kind of work, send the VIN, the registration and a few photos of the cab and the body with your first message.
Refuse is the second line on that same FMCSA census, with 65 carriers hauling garbage and trash, followed by 35 moving motor vehicles and 33 carrying household goods. Packer trucks, roll-offs, car carriers and moving vans all fit what we purchase; tell us the body type and its maker along with the chassis details.
Of those carriers, the federal census counts 414 as intrastate and 104 as interstate, and 284 run private fleets that carry their own goods. A private-fleet truck often has a business name on the title; have whoever signs for that business ready when we collect.
Short hops around Nassau and Queens
Drivers here mostly stay close: the FMCSA census records 837 drivers working within 100 miles and 250 working beyond that. A truck on local routes is usually parked at a yard, a depot or a driveway in town, so tell us the address and the hours someone can let us in.
Among the 87 Valley Stream carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covered 15,000 miles a year. Include a clear photo of the dash showing the current odometer reading with your Valley Stream address.
The biggest fleets in town are small by any measure: FMCSA lists them at 19, 18 and 12 power units. If you are selling several trucks from one fleet, put the VINs in a single list so one visit can cover them.
Roadside checks and a 2018 median
FMCSA roadside inspection records from August 2024 to August 2026 cover 205 trucks from Valley Stream carriers, and their median model year is 2018. Whatever year yours is, the title and the VIN are what we start with.
In those same roadside inspections, about 41 percent of the trucks were ten or more model years old. Older or newer, keep any service records you have in the cab, since they answer questions before we ask them.
Terminals and rail yards within a few miles
The Energy Information Administration places the Long Island Blending Terminal 2.9 miles south-west of Valley Stream and the Lawrence Blending Terminal 3.1 miles out in the same direction. If your tanker or fuel truck is parked near either one, give us the gate contact and we will arrange the pickup there.
To the west, the North American Rail Network from the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows Jamaica Yard at 5.8 miles and a second Jamaica yard at 6.3. Trucks that drayed to those yards can be collected in Queens just as easily as in Nassau.
Further out, Red Hook Container Terminal, an intermodal ramp 15.9 miles west, appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings, as do liquid bulk terminals run by The Energy Conservation Group at 10.9 miles north-west and Global Companies at 11.8 miles north. A day cab that pulled containers or tank trailers to those sites is one we buy; tell us where it sits now.
Valley Stream payrolls behind the wheel
Of 21,396 jobs counted in Valley Stream for 2023, transportation and warehousing holds 1,504 and construction 870, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Dump trucks, flatbeds and stake bodies from building work are all trucks we collect; send photos of the body as well as the cab.
A total of 178 construction establishments appear for the area in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If your truck belongs to a contractor’s company, the person named on the registration is the one who signs it over.
Wholesale trade adds 257 jobs here on the same LEHD count, and manufacturing 77. Delivery trucks from those businesses fit too; keep the registration current until the sale is done.
Titles, bridges and state rules
If the title has gone missing, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office closest to town is Queens South TVB at 168-35 Rockaway Blvd in Jamaica, 3.5 miles away. Ask there about a duplicate before the pickup date, and tell us if a lender still holds a lien.
Of 8 bridges in Valley Stream on the National Bridge Inventory, 2 are load-posted and none has clearance under 14 feet. Let us know if the truck sits on a street past one of the posted crossings so the tow can plan its route.
New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation lists both the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulation as having enforcement paused. Neither one changes what you need to sell: the title, the registration and the keys.
The questions we get asked in Valley Stream
- My truck is parked near the blending terminals south-west of town. Should I bring it back from the Lawrence side before you collect?Leave it by the terminals. The Energy Information Administration puts the Long Island and Lawrence blending terminals about 3 miles from Valley Stream, and we collect from there. Give us the lot owner’s contact.
- Which DMV office near Valley Stream handles a duplicate title? The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs Queens South TVB at 168-35 Rockaway Blvd, Jamaica, 3.5 miles from Valley Stream. Start the duplicate there and tell us when you have applied.
- Will you take a packer or roll-off from a Valley Stream refuse hauler?A Nassau packer truck is one we collect. FMCSA’s carrier census lists 65 Valley Stream carriers hauling refuse, and roll-offs belong there too. Send the VIN, the body maker and photos.
