Petroleum terminals west of campus
The Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal at Poughkeepsie, 2.3 miles west of Vassar College, down toward the river. A tank truck or fuel delivery straight truck that loads there may well be parked closer to the terminal than to the campus, so give us the exact yard address rather than the town name.
Roseton, 9.6 miles to the south-west across the water, appears on that same Energy Information Administration list as a second petroleum product terminal. If your tractor has pulled product out of Roseton, tell us which side of the Hudson it sits on now and who holds the gate key, and we plan the collection around that.
Four aggregate sites within twelve miles of the campus
Clinton Point Quarry & Mill, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 4.8 miles south-west, is the nearest mine site to the college. Dump trucks and tri-axles that cycle between a quarry face and job sites are often parked on the quarry property itself, so tell us whether we would be collecting from inside a mine gate.
To the north-east, Peckham Materials Pleasant Valley Quarry sits 7.1 miles out and Route 82 Sand & Gravel, Inc. is 11.1 miles away, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. RW-Billings, a sand and gravel operation 8.6 miles east, is also listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. For any of these, photos of the body, the hoist and the cab, plus the VIN, let us start with the truck you actually own.
Aggregate haulers here tend to work for more than one pit over the years. Note which of these four sites your truck served, keep any MSHA site paperwork you have, and send it along with the title.
New Hamburg and the Danskammer rail yard
New Hamburg, a liquid bulk terminal, is listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 7.5 miles south-west of Vassar College. A tanker that works between that river terminal and the Poughkeepsie fuel site can be collected at either end; just say which one.
Across the river at 8.7 miles, the Danskammer Plant rail yard is carried on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your truck has shuttled loads to that yard, list the trailers it pulled and send the registration so the details we see match what you describe.
Dutchess milk and horses
Dutchess County dairy and horse farms
Dutchess County had 620 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and its leading products were milk, equine and deer. A milk tanker, a livestock or horse hauler, or a farm stake truck kept in a barn lot outside town is something we collect where it stands.
Farm trucks are often titled in a family member’s name or to the farm itself. Check whose name is on the title before you contact us, and if it has to be signed by a relative or a farm partner, have them ready for that step.
Lost title, Poughkeepsie
The DMV counter at the County Office Building
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles lists its Poughkeepsie office in the County Office Building at 22 Market St, 2.2 miles from Vassar College. That is where a seller from the college area goes to replace a lost title before the sale.
Bring the VIN and your registration when you visit Market Street, and keep the replacement title with your service records once it arrives.
Campus-area work, paused rules
Jobs and clean-truck rules in this corner of Poughkeepsie
According to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES), the Vassar College area held 2,372 jobs in 2023. Box trucks and service vehicles that support that local work are on our list too, from a single straight truck to several units sold together.
New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation shows enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and of the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulation as paused. Either way, send the photos, the VIN and the title details whenever you are ready.
