Arsenal and riverfront
Trucks around the Arsenal and the Albany port
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Watervliet Arsenal 0.4 miles south of the city centre, and lists the Albany Port District, NY, about 6 miles to the south-west. If your tractor or straight truck is kept in a yard between the two, send us the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key, and the pickup is planned around that lot rather than around your schedule.
Along the same stretch of river, the Energy Information Administration lists the Sunoco Hudson Terminal 5.9 miles south-west of Watervliet and a second petroleum product terminal at Albany 6.2 miles out. A tank truck or fuel tractor that has loaded at those racks can be collected from the terminal side of the river; tell us which rack it served and attach any tank test certificates you still hold.
West Albany yards, Cohoes and the Valente pit
According to the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the West Albany rail yard lies roughly 4.6 miles south-west of town. Drayage tractors and flatbeds that shuttle between that yard and Watervliet shops are trucks we buy; a photo of the VIN plate and the current registration card is the first thing to send.
North of the city, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records the Cohoes Mine and Mill 2.1 miles away, and the same agency lists the Valente Pit, a sand and gravel operation, 5.1 miles east. Dump trucks and tri-axles that run between those sites can stay at the pit or the mill while we arrange collection, so long as someone can walk us to the truck.
Freight, coils and refuse out of Watervliet
Of the 119 active Watervliet-based outfits in FMCSA’s carrier census, 62 tick general freight as something they carry. Box trucks, van trailers and the day cabs that pull them fall squarely in what we purchase; have the title and the last annual inspection sticker information ready when you call.
The same FMCSA census shows 22 local carriers hauling machinery and large objects, 17 carrying metal sheets, coils and rolls, and 12 moving garbage and refuse. Lowboys, coil-rated flatbeds and roll-off or rear-load refuse trucks each get a quote request of their own, so tell us the body type and the axle setup up front.
Of those 119 carriers, FMCSA lists 83 as intrastate only, 36 as interstate, and 75 as private fleets hauling their own goods. If your truck carries a company’s own product rather than for-hire freight, the paperwork we need is the same: title, registration, and the name on both.
How old the Arsenal city’s trucks run, and how far
Between September 2024 and August 2026, inspectors stopped 191 trucks belonging to Watervliet operators, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give that group a median model year of 2020, with 27 percent at ten years or older. Whatever the model year on your title, give us the exact year, make and engine so we look up the right build sheet.
For the 28 local carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median truck logged 17,402 miles a year. Read the odometer and the engine hour meter on the day you contact us, and photograph both, since those two figures settle most of our follow-up questions.
Titles and registration near Watervliet
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles lists the Rensselaer County Mobile office at 1600 7th Ave in Troy, 1.1 miles from Watervliet across the river. If the title has gone missing, a replacement request through the DMV is the step to start before we schedule a pickup.
New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation lists both the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulation as enforcement paused. Neither rule stands in the way of selling a diesel tractor registered in Albany County today; bring the registration showing the current plate class.
Jobs, builders and farms that put trucks on the road
Manufacturing holds 342 of the 1,932 jobs located in Watervliet, construction 209 and transportation and warehousing 154, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Plant delivery trucks, contractor dumps and warehouse tractors from any of those three employers can be sold to us directly by the titled owner.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 39 construction establishments here, while USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 349 farms across Albany County, led by corn, sheep and maple syrup. A farm-plated grain truck or a builder’s mason dump is welcome; tell us whether the plates are farm, commercial or apportioned so we know which registration to expect.
The questions we get asked in Watervliet
- Our tri-axle sits at the Valente sand and gravel pit across the river; can you collect it there? The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Valente Pit 5.1 miles east of the city, and we collect from the pit itself. Give us the operator’s contact so the gate is open when the truck is loaded.
- Which DMV office near the Arsenal city sorts out a missing New York title? The Rensselaer County Mobile office at 1600 7th Ave in Troy, listed by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles 1.1 miles away, handles title work. Start the replacement there, then send us the receipt with your photos.
- My tractor shuttles between the Albany Port District and the Arsenal gate; should I mention that route? Both sites are close by: the Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts the Arsenal 0.4 miles south and the Albany Port District about 6 miles south-west. Tell us which gates the truck used and any site passes it carries, and we will ask the rest.
