Pits and quarries along the Cohocton side of town
Cohocton Mine, a sand and gravel operation the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 6.8 miles south-east of Wayland, is the closest extraction site to the village. A dump truck or tri-axle that has spent its seasons loading there is the kind of equipment we collect, and it can stay parked at the yard or at your place while we arrange the visit.
Further along the same heading, Howard Plant shows up in Mine Safety and Health Administration records at 14.8 miles out, and the Bath Plant crushed-stone quarry at 21.4 miles. If your truck hauled aggregate between those sites, send photos of the body, the cab and the plate, plus the VIN, and tell us where the truck is sitting so we can plan the route in.
North-west of town, Hampton Corners Mine and Retsof Bagging is an industrial-mineral mine about 17.7 miles away according to MSHA. Owners of tractors or bulk trailers that served that mine can list the trailer type alongside the tractor details, which keeps our questions short.
A replacement title five miles up the road
If the title for your truck has gone missing, that office is where a Wayland owner can apply for a replacement certificate before we collect.
The agency’s own guidance on replacing a title certificate covers which form and identification you will need, so check it before driving over. Bring the registration and your ID, and keep the replacement title with the truck once it arrives so the paperwork is ready on pickup day.
In the same FMCSA records, seventy of them are cleared for intrastate work only, five run across state lines, and 57 operate as private fleets carrying their own goods rather than freight for hire.
That mix means most trucks we would collect here are working New York routes and are probably parked at a farm, a shop or a home lot rather than a terminal. Tell us the address where your truck stays, and whether a tow vehicle can reach it, when you first get in touch.
Fleets in the village are small: according to the federal carrier records, the biggest outfit runs nine power units, the next six, and a third four. Whether you have one truck or a handful, list each VIN on its own line so every unit is accounted for.
Farm supplies, grain and heavy machinery
Among Wayland carriers, 23 report hauling farm supplies and another 23 general freight, while 22 move machinery or large objects and 20 carry grain, feed or hay, by the cargo classes filed with FMCSA. A grain hopper, a lowboy for equipment or a flatbed for supplies can all be photographed with the trailer attached if you plan to sell both.
Steuben County holds 1,373 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, corn and cattle as the leading products there. A milk tanker, a cattle trailer or a farm straight truck from around Wayland is equipment we collect; share the body type and any service records you keep.
How far a Wayland truck goes in a year
Fourteen local carriers reported their annual mileage to FMCSA, and the median works out at 9,750 miles per truck. Give us your odometer reading along with the VIN; both go on the paperwork whatever the figure is.
Wayland carriers in the federal census list 103 drivers who stay inside a hundred air miles of home and 30 who go further. If your truck worked short local runs, a note on where it usually ran helps us find it and plan the pickup.
LAKEVILLE YARD, a rail yard on the North American Rail Network, lies about 20.5 miles north of Wayland. A day cab or trailer that has shuttled loads to that yard can be collected wherever it is parked, in the village or near the tracks.
To the south-east, the Energy Information Administration lists SAVONA, a petroleum product terminal, at 24.7 miles. Owners of a fuel truck that loaded there should note the tank capacity and compartments in the first message, along with photos of the plate and the cab.
Wayland counted 251 jobs in 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns lists 10 construction establishments in the area. A contractor’s dump truck or service body from one of those firms can be sold with its title and registration in hand.
New York’s Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and its Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation are both on the books; the state has paused enforcement of each. Selling a diesel truck from Wayland needs no extra filing under either rule today.
