Quarry beside the village
Two crushed-stone pits, one at the edge of West Carthage
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the West Carthage Mine, a crushed-stone quarry, 2.7 miles north-west of the village. Tri-axle dumps and end-dump trailers that carry stone from a pit that close often sit at the quarry gate or in a driveway in town, and either spot works for a collection. Let us know whether the dump sits at the pit or on a West Carthage street, and whose key starts it.
A second quarry, the Watertown Plant, is 12.3 miles west according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records. If your dump truck split its hauls between the two pits, mention both when you get in touch, and send photos of the body, the hoist and the cab along with the description.
Rails beside the river
Sidings near and far from the village
Just 2.5 miles north, the CARTHAGE rail yard appears on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Tractors that shuttle loads to a siding like that are often day cabs kept near the tracks; give us the street or the lot name and we plan the pickup around the yard’s access.
MASSEY WEST YARD, 16.3 miles west on the North American Rail Network, is the other yard in reach. A sleeper or day cab that has worked both yards can be sold from wherever it sits now, so send the VIN and an odometer photo first and the rest of our questions follow from those.
Hauling up to the Fort Drum gates
Fort Drum, a military installation the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 10.5 miles north of West Carthage, lies up the road from the village. Box trucks, flatbeds and fuel haulers that have done base work are trucks we buy. If your truck is kept on a contractor lot outside the post, name the lot and a contact who can let us in.
Keep any delivery logs, registration and service records from that base work together in the cab. They show what the truck carried and where, and a folder like that spares you a round of phone calls later.
Ore and minerals toward Balmat
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records an industrial-mineral mine 15.8 miles north-east and Empire State Mines, a metal mine, at 22.7 miles. Haul trucks and lowboy tractors from those sites can stay where they are parked; we travel to them.
BALMAT MINING OPERATIONS, a mineral processing plant 23.5 miles north-east on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, rounds out the cluster. Owners whose trucks moved concentrate or supplies between Balmat and the mines should tell us the route, since it helps us match the truck to the work it did.
Where the village works
Freight on West Carthage payrolls
Of the 777 jobs in West Carthage in 2023, 161, or 20.7%, were in transportation and warehousing, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. That share puts plenty of straight trucks and tractors in local driveways, and any of them can be collected from the yard or the curb where it is kept.
Manufacturing held another 69 jobs that year, 8.9% of the total, in those same Census Bureau LODES figures. A truck that served a plant floor here can be sold with its registration and the plant’s address for pickup; photos of the cargo area help us understand how it was set up.
Dairy hauling across the county
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 749 farms in Jefferson County, and milk, corn and cattle lead the list. Milk tankers, grain trucks and livestock haulers that work those farms are welcome here, whether they are parked in a barnyard or at the edge of a field.
A milk tanker from a Jefferson County dairy may carry the farm’s name on its title instead of yours. Bring the name exactly as it appears on the title, and if a partner or family member co-signed, have them ready to sign too.
Arsenal Street in Watertown
A missing title is replaced by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and its WATERTOWN office at 175 ARSENAL ST, WATERTOWN, is 14.5 miles from West Carthage by that department’s listing. Start the replacement there before we schedule the collection, and keep the receipt with the truck.
If the title is in hand, check that the VIN on it matches the plate on the door frame and that any lien shows as released. A lender’s release letter, kept alongside the title, answers that question in one sheet.
