Sand Lake aggregate
Sand and gravel on the north side
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists West Sand Lake Pit & Mill as a sand and gravel operation 0.7 miles north of town, and Valente Pit 3.7 miles to the north-west. A dump truck or tri-axle that loads at either one is probably parked at the pit, at the mill yard or in a driveway close by. Give us the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key, and the collection is planned around that spot.
For 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) put 122 of the 467 jobs located here in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction, a 26.1 percent share. If your truck hauled stone or sand for that work, photograph the body, the tailgate and the hoist along with the cab, and note which pit it loaded at, so the pictures and the description line up.
Fuel and bulk liquids along the Hudson
West of town, Sunoco Hudson Terminal sits 7.5 miles out and a second petroleum product terminal listed as Albany sits 7.8 miles out, both on the Energy Information Administration’s terminal list. Tell us where your tanker or fuel truck is garaged, and we come to that address to collect it.
Two liquid bulk terminals, Global and Rensselaer Terminal, are each 8.2 miles west according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. With tank equipment, have the tank’s test and inspection paperwork in the cab along with the registration, and tell us whether the trailer goes with the tractor or stays behind.
An Amtrak shop and an arsenal across the river
Albany Amtrak Shops, 7.4 miles west of West Sand Lake, appears as a rail yard on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. A service truck or flatbed working out of a yard like that may be parked inside a fenced lot, so tell us who signs vehicles in and out before we schedule anything.
Watervliet Arsenal, a military installation the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 8 miles north-west, is across the river from town. If your truck sits on or near a controlled site, send the gate procedure with the address; that one detail settles how the pickup is arranged.
Sand Lake haulers
Twenty-seven carriers on the town line
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 27 active carriers based here: 23 run intrastate only, 4 cross state lines, and 22 are private fleets hauling their own goods. Most owners selling here therefore hold New York registration alone, which keeps the paperwork to a New York title and the current registration card.
By cargo, the same FMCSA census lists 12 carriers hauling general freight, 3 hauling farm supplies, 3 moving motor vehicles and 2 collecting garbage, refuse and trash. In FMCSA’s carrier census one fleet reports 60 power units and 60 drivers, another 14 and 14, and a third 10 power units with 6 drivers. Whether you are selling one roll-off or several tractors from a fleet that size, send the VIN for each unit and we work through them one at a time.
Registrations reported to FMCSA show 2 new carriers here in 2025 and 1 in 2024. The census also records 96 drivers working within 100 miles and 30 going farther, and a median of 12,000 miles per truck across the 7 carriers that reported it; put the odometer reading in your first message whichever group you fall into.
Thirty-three trucks stopped and checked
Between 2024-09-06 and 2026-08-14, FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 33 trucks from carriers here, with a median model year of 2018 and 30.3 percent at ten or more years old. Both newer and older model years appear in that set, and we buy across that range.
Have the year, make and model ready with the VIN, plus any service records you keep. Inspection reports from those roadside stops can go in the folder too; they tell us where the truck has been working.
Rensselaer farms and the contractors beside them
In USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, Rensselaer County had 483 farms, with milk, cattle and corn at the top of the list. A milk tanker, livestock hauler or grain truck parked on a farm outside West Sand Lake is collected from the farm itself; tell us which lane or barn it sits beside.
Contractors’ dump trucks and equipment haulers often share yard space with farm trucks here, so if more than one vehicle is on the property, say which one is for sale and send a photo of it alone.
Paperwork through the Troy Road office
Sellers in West Sand Lake deal with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office called East Greenbush, at 99 Troy Rd, East Greenbush, 5.5 miles away. If the title is lost, that office is where the replacement starts, and a release from any old lienholder goes there too.
Bring the signed title, the registration and your ID to the handover. If the truck is registered to a business, have the person authorized to sign for it on hand, or a signed authorization from them.
