Home-base haulers
Contractors, movers and lumber haulers on the Yorktown register
Of the 98 active Yorktown Heights motor carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, 69 are private fleets that move their own goods instead of freight for hire. If your truck has served your own business - a contractor’s dump truck, a landscaper’s rack body, a builder’s flatbed - it fits that pattern, and we buy it the same way we buy a for-hire tractor. Have the registration in the business name ready, along with who signs for the company.
General freight is the cargo most of these carriers declare, with 33 listing it on the federal census; machinery and large objects follow at 14, and household goods and logs, poles, beams and lumber at 8 apiece. A box truck, a lowboy for equipment or a log trailer can all come off a Yorktown Heights driveway. Tell us which of those your truck hauled and send photos of the body or trailer as well as the cab.
Fleets here stay small: the three biggest on the FMCSA register run six, six and five power units, with three or four drivers each. If you are selling one truck out of a handful, we can take it alone, and if you are winding down the whole yard, list every VIN in your first message so we can plan around all of them together.
Intrastate plates and short annual mileage
Of the 98 carriers, the federal motor carrier census counts 82 as intrastate and only 15 as interstate operators. Most Yorktown Heights trucks, then, carry New York plates and New York paperwork only. Keep the New York registration and the title together with the truck so both are on hand at pickup.
Driver records filed with FMCSA show 146 drivers working within a hundred-mile radius against 28 who go beyond it. For the 14 carriers that reported mileage, the median truck covered 8,075 miles in a year, according to the same federal census. That figure is neutral: it simply tells us your truck is likely parked at a home yard or job site nearby, which is where we collect it.
If you started an operation recently and the truck no longer fits your plans, a short ownership history is no obstacle. Pass along the VIN, the New York title and photos of the truck from each side to begin.
Hudson-side stone and rail
Quarries, rail and fuel between Croton and Haverstraw
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Haverstraw Quarry & Mill, a crushed-stone operation 11.6 miles south-west across the Hudson, and West Nyack Quarry about 14.9 miles out in the same direction. North-west, at 17 miles, the Mine Safety and Health Administration also records the Century Aggregates Fishkill Mine for sand and gravel. Dump trucks and tri-axles that haul stone from those pits are trucks we purchase; tell us which site the truck worked and whether it is parked there or back home.
Seven or eight miles south-west of town, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places two yards: North Croton at 7.8 miles and Harmon Shops at 7.9. If your truck is kept on a lot near those yards, give us the street address and a contact who can open the gate.
Nine miles west at Cortland Manor, the Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal. A fuel tanker or a tractor that has pulled tank trailers in and out of that terminal belongs on our list too; include any tank inspection paperwork you hold along with the photos.
Nearest to Yorktown Heights, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office is PEEKSKILL, at 1045 Park St, Peekskill, about 7.6 miles from town by the state agency’s own listing. If the title is missing, that is the DMV office to visit for a replacement certificate before we arrange collection.
Its replacement title process is set out on the website of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles at dmv.ny.gov. Start that request as soon as you decide to sell, and keep the registration, a photo ID and any lien release from the lender together so everything matches the name on the new title.
Warehouse, wholesale and trade jobs
Where Yorktown Heights works, from depots to nurseries
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 record 2,997 jobs located in Yorktown Heights, with 250 of them, 8.3 percent, in transportation and warehousing. Wholesale trade holds 3.8 percent and manufacturing 3.7 percent on the same LEHD tally, with construction at 2.7 percent. A delivery straight truck or a contractor’s dump body from any of those trades is one we buy.
Westchester County counted 108 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and equine operations, potted flowering plants and foliage plants lead its listed products. A horse-trailer hauler or a nursery’s box truck from a farm near Yorktown Heights can be sold to us from the property where it is kept; send photos and the title, and tell us whether a trailer goes with it.
New York’s clean truck regulations for owners here
Two heavy-duty truck rules appear on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s list, the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation. For both, the department reports that enforcement is currently paused.
For a Yorktown Heights owner selling a diesel truck, that leaves nothing extra to file on these two rules before a sale. Have the title, registration and VIN photo ready, and we handle the rest of the purchase at the truck’s location.
