General freight shows up on 39 of the 63 active Avon carrier registrations in FMCSA’s carrier census, ahead of every other cargo type listed for the city. If your tractor or straight truck has done that kind of mixed freight work, a photo of the cab interior, one of each side and a clear shot of the VIN plate give us most of what we need to start.
Sixteen Avon carriers in that same federal census declare machinery and large objects, 13 declare logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 11 declare metal sheets, coils and rolls. Flatbeds, step decks and lowboy setups belong in that mix; if yours pulled one of those trailers, tell us whether the trailer is part of the sale or stays behind.
New entrants keep appearing on the register: five carriers started in Avon during 2025 and three during 2024, according to FMCSA. A newer authority is no obstacle to selling a truck. Have the title in the name that appears on the registration, and if the truck was bought through the business, bring paperwork showing who may sign for it.
Intrastate runs and interstate lanes
Of the Avon carriers FMCSA records, 38 operate intrastate only and 25 cross state lines, while 28 run as private fleets moving their own goods. A private fleet truck is often parked at the company’s own yard, so give us the yard address and the name of whoever can let us through the gate.
Driver counts filed with the federal carrier census put 113 Avon drivers within a 100-mile radius and another 113 beyond it. If your truck is out on a lane when you reach us, say where it will next be parked; we arrange collection at that spot rather than asking you to bring it home first.
Twenty-two Avon carriers gave FMCSA a yearly mileage figure, and the midpoint across them is 32,678 miles for each truck. Write the current odometer reading down before you call, along with the VIN, since those two figures open every conversation we have about a truck.
FMCSA roadside inspection records covering September 2024 through August 2026 caught 38 Avon-registered trucks, and their median model year came out at 2020.5. Whatever year your own truck is, the registration card and title should show the same year and VIN; if they differ, flag it so the paperwork can be sorted before pickup.
Just 13.2 percent of those 38 Avon trucks, by the roadside inspection records, carried a model year a decade or more back. Older or newer, the steps match: title, current registration, any inspection reports you kept and service invoices if you have them.
At the top of Avon’s list in FMCSA’s carrier census, one fleet fields 51 power units and 69 drivers, a second has 26 units for 6 drivers, and a third pairs 13 units with 13 drivers. Selling several units from one fleet works the same as selling one; list each VIN and where each truck is parked.
South Lorain, Ford Junction and the lakefront
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the South Lorain rail yard 4.6 miles west of Avon and the Ford Jct yard 4.9 miles west. A drayage tractor kept near either yard can be collected right there; send the lot address and a contact for access.
Southward, the Energy Information Administration lists a Lorain petroleum product terminal 9.7 miles out, and a Cleveland one sits 16.8 miles east of town. Tank-pulling tractors from those runs often carry terminal inspection sheets; keep them with the title so the truck’s working history travels with it.
Seventeen miles east, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records two liquid bulk terminals, Cleveland Terminal at 17.1 miles and Transflo CSXT at 17.2. Leave a truck parked on the Cleveland side where it is and send us that address for the collection.
Cargill salt and the Whiskey Island dock
Cargill Deicing Solutions-Cleveland Mn, an industrial-mineral mine, lies 15.3 miles east of Avon according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, which also lists the Dock #1 Whiskey Island mineral processing plant 15.5 miles out. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors that hauled from those sites belong on our list of what we purchase.
Mine site trucks sometimes stay behind a gated property after the work ends. If yours is parked at or near Whiskey Island, tell us who controls the gate and whether a site escort is required, and we plan the visit around those terms.
Avon plants, wholesale floors and soybean farms
Manufacturing accounts for 1,911 of the 13,882 jobs located in Avon in 2023, or 13.8 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and wholesale trade adds 861. Box trucks and tractors that served plant docks and distribution floors can be picked up from the loading area where they last worked.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 50 construction establishments in Avon, and the LEHD job counts place 405 construction jobs in the city. Dump bodies, roll-offs and flatbeds from building sites qualify; photograph the body and any attached equipment along with the chassis.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 894 farms across Lorain County, with soybeans, corn and cattle as the leading products. A grain truck or livestock hauler kept on a farm can be collected from the barn lot; give us directions if the farm lane is hard to find.
Clear roads to the pickup spot
Of the 25 Avon structures in the National Bridge Inventory, kept by the Federal Highway Administration, not one is load-posted or sits under 14 feet of clearance anywhere in the city. That leaves the local roads open to a tow or carrier rig reaching your truck wherever it sits in town.
What we still need from you is the exact spot: street address, which side of the building, and whether the keys are with the truck. A title that has gone missing should be replaced through Ohio’s title agency before collection, so start that request when you first contact us.
The questions we get asked in Avon
- Will you pick up a tractor sitting by the South Lorain rail yard west of Avon?South Lorain sits 4.6 miles west of Avon on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from that area directly. Send the address of the lot and the name of someone who can grant access.
- I run a flatbed hauling steel coils. Do you buy that kind of rig?Eleven Avon carriers in FMCSA’s census declare metal sheets, coils and rolls, and those tractors and flatbeds are trucks we purchase. Tell us whether the trailer is included and send photos of the deck and the securement points.
- My Avon truck is out on a Cleveland job site this month; does it have to come back to town first?Cleveland Terminal and Transflo CSXT sit about 17 miles east of Avon according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and a truck parked on that side of the county line is collected where it is. Give us the location and when it will be there.
