North-east tracks
Two rail yards just up the valley from Brilliant
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places one rail yard named Mingo 2.4 miles north-east of the village and a second Mingo yard 2.8 miles out in the same direction. A tractor that shuttles loads off either set of tracks can usually be collected from the lot it parks on, so send us that address rather than moving the truck.
With both Mingo yards under three miles away on that federal rail listing, a day cab built for short yard-to-dock runs is a common sight around Brilliant. Photograph the cab, the fifth wheel, the frame rails and the tires in daylight, and have the registration and the VIN in hand when you call.
Upriver tank racks
Steubenville and Wellsville terminals north of town
Nine and a half miles north, the Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal at Steubenville; further up the river at about 22.6 miles it lists the Wellsville asphalt terminal. Tankers and asphalt trucks that load at either one tend to be parked near home in Brilliant between runs, and that is where we come for them.
Close by Wellsville, roughly 22.5 miles north, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records a Marathon Petroleum Corporation liquid bulk terminal. If your tank truck or tractor has served those racks, keep its tank test certificates and service records together with the title so the history travels with it.
Valley haul sites
Quarry, coal dock and mineral plant around the river village
Federal mine inspectors at the Mine Safety and Health Administration list the CCU Bellaire Dock coal preparation plant 18.1 miles south and the Uniontown Stone crushed-stone quarry 20.5 miles west of Brilliant. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors that cycle between those sites are trucks we buy, wherever along that route they happen to be parked.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration also records a mineral processing plant up at Wellsville, about 22.4 miles north. For a dump truck that has hauled out of it, tell us the body type and length and send a photo of the hoist and tailgate along with the cab.
A village where transportation fills over a third of the jobs
Of 357 jobs counted in Brilliant for 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, 138 sit in transportation and warehousing, a 38.7 percent share. If one of those jobs ran your truck and you now want it gone, a phone call with the VIN, the odometer reading and the location is enough to start.
Owner-operators and small outfits around the village often keep a single tractor or straight truck in a yard behind the house. Leave it where it is; give us directions and tell us whether a tow truck can reach it without moving anything else.
Hill farms
Corn, soybean and horse farms in the hills west of the river
Away from the riverbank, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 541 farms across Jefferson County, with corn, soybeans and equine leading. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and flatbeds used for hay all qualify, and so do the farm-plated ones.
A truck that has spent seasons in a barn on one of those farms can be picked up right there. Find the title before we arrive, and if the truck was registered in a farm or business name, have whoever signs for that name ready.
Replacing a lost certificate six miles from Brilliant
Ohio titles are issued by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles through County Clerk of Courts title offices, and the one for this county is the Jefferson County Clerk of Courts Title Office, which the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles lists about 6.4 miles from the village at 195 Rear Main Street in Rayland, 43943 (mail to PO Box 292). That is where an owner in Brilliant goes for a duplicate when the original has gone missing.
Bring your identification and the truck’s VIN to Rayland, and if a lender is still shown on the record, bring the lien release too. Once the duplicate is in your hand, the sale itself only needs your signature on it.
