Fuel and asphalt terminals south of Calcutta
The Energy Information Administration lists the East Liverpool petroleum product terminal 4.4 miles south of Calcutta, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places a liquid bulk terminal run by TransMontaigne Partners 4.9 miles out in the same direction. If your tractor has pulled tankers to and from those river sites, note which loading racks it served and keep any terminal access or safety paperwork in the cab file.
Further down the river, at 8.8 miles south-west, the Energy Information Administration records the Wellsville asphalt terminal, and Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings put a Marathon Petroleum liquid bulk terminal at that same distance. A truck parked near Wellsville can stay there for collection; send us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
For a tanker unit, photograph the tank, the valves and the placard holders as well as the cab and the frame rails, and send the VIN with those shots so the photos and the title can be matched.
Pits north and west
Quarries, pits and the Wellsville processing plant
The Mine Safety and Health Administration registers the Wellsville Facility, a mineral processing plant, 9.2 miles south-west of Calcutta. Dump trucks and flatbeds that shuttle between that plant and the river can be picked up wherever they last parked, as long as you tell us who controls access to the lot.
Heading north, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Subtropolis, a crushed-stone quarry 15.5 miles away, and Honey Creek Pit at 17.3 miles; to the west the same mine agency records Shale Pit 002, an industrial-mineral mine 17.2 miles off. A truck sitting at one of those sites should have its title and current registration ready, plus the scale tickets or haul logs if you kept them.
Quarry access roads often close outside shift hours, so give us the gate times for the pit where the truck sits. That lets the pickup be booked for when someone is on site to let the hauler in.
Fifteen motor carriers and what they carry
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 15 active motor carriers based in Calcutta: 10 operate interstate, 5 stay inside Ohio, and 11 run as private fleets moving their own goods. A private-fleet straight truck or tractor sells the same way as a for-hire one; bring the title in the company’s name and a signer with authority to transfer it.
General freight is listed by 8 of those carriers in the FMCSA census, machinery and large objects by 4, and logs, poles, beams and lumber by 2, with another 2 hauling metal sheets, coils and rolls. Lowboys, coil racks and log bunks all count; describe the trailer or body that goes with the tractor so we know whether the sale covers both.
Among fleets on record with the federal carrier census, one runs 16 power units with 24 drivers, another 7 power units with 5 drivers, and a third 6 power units with 15 drivers. If you are clearing several units from a yard like that, send a list of VINs together and one visit can cover the lot.
Staying near base
Local driving and annual mileage
Drivers working for Calcutta carriers mostly stay close: FMCSA’s census shows 55 operating within 100 miles of base and 13 going beyond that radius. A truck kept on short regional runs is usually parked at home or at the shop between jobs, which is where we would arrange to meet it.
Across the 8 carriers that report mileage to FMCSA, the median comes to 9,214 miles per truck per year. Read the odometer and write the figure down along with the VIN before you contact us, since those two numbers start every conversation about a sale.
Have the service log or shop invoices to hand if you kept them; a short-haul truck often has a single local mechanic, and naming that shop gives us a clear picture of the truck’s history.
Between late August 2024 and mid-August 2026, inspectors stopped 96 trucks belonging to Calcutta-based carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give those units a median model year of 2020. Keep the reports from any of those stops in the folder with your title, since they show where the truck has been checked.
Roughly a fifth of that group, 21.9 percent per the FMCSA roadside inspection file, carried a model year ten or more years back. Whatever the year of yours, list the model year, engine and transmission when you write, and attach the latest annual inspection sheet if you have it.
Columbiana County
Contractors, dairy farms and Calcutta’s workforce
Calcutta counted 1,574 jobs in 2023 under the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and manufacturing accounted for 75 of them, a 4.8 percent share. Here the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally 27 construction firms alongside 3 warehousing sites. Contractors selling a dump body, a flatbed or a crane truck should gather the title, the registration and any body or equipment manuals.
Columbiana County holds 1,129 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and milk, corn and soybeans lead its farm products. A milk tanker, grain truck or farm-plated tractor kept on a dairy or crop farm can be collected right from the barnyard; tell us whether the plates are farm plates so the paperwork is right.
If the title has gone missing, request a duplicate from the state before you list the truck, and send us the receipt so the sale can be lined up for when the new certificate arrives.
The questions we get asked in Calcutta
- The tanker sits beside the East Liverpool fuel terminal; must it be moved up to Calcutta before you take it?The East Liverpool petroleum product terminal is 4.4 miles south of Calcutta on Energy Information Administration listings, and the truck can stay right there for pickup. Pass along the terminal lot’s address and the name of whoever controls the gate there.
- Do you collect dump trucks from the quarries north of town?Subtropolis, 15.5 miles north, and Honey Creek Pit, 17.3 miles north, are both crushed-stone quarries on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and a truck at either can be collected on site. Send the gate hours and the VIN with your photos.
- Can a private fleet sell one of its trucks?Eleven of the 15 Calcutta carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census run private fleets, and their trucks are bought just like for-hire units. Have the title in the business name and someone authorised to sign it over.
- What should I gather before getting in touch? With a median of 9,214 miles a year per truck across 8 Calcutta carriers in FMCSA figures, the odometer reading matters, so note it along with the VIN. Add the title, registration, recent inspection sheets and photos of the cab, frame and tires.
