Forty-three carriers in a village of sixteen hundred
Of the 43 Dalton-based carriers active on FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight is the cargo 26 put on their registration. If you run one of those tractors, have the cab card and the title together before you call: those two papers answer most of our first questions.
Grain, feed and hay is declared by 14 Dalton carriers and farm supplies by 12, according to the same FMCSA census. A grain truck or a tractor that pulls a hopper is often parked at the farm between seasons; give us the farm address and a gate contact and we collect it there.
Eleven carriers in the village list metal sheets, coils and rolls as cargo in FMCSA’s records. A flatbed tractor set up for coil work should come with photos of the deck, the chains or coil racks it carries, and the VIN plate, so we know the full rig before we arrive.
Three kinds of operator
Private fleets, interstate and in-state operators
Of the Dalton carriers on FMCSA’s census, 22 are authorised for interstate work, 21 run intrastate only, and 23 are private fleets carrying their own goods. A private-fleet truck, such as a feed or supply company’s straight truck, can be sold by the business that holds the title; have a company officer sign the transfer.
The three biggest fleets based here run 17, 12 and 9 power units, with 13, 10 and 6 drivers, under FMCSA’s census. An owner selling two or three units from a yard that size can send one list of VINs and one address, and we plan a single collection around them.
Dalton added three carriers to FMCSA’s register in 2025, after a single newcomer in 2024. A newer operator selling a first truck needs the title in the company’s name or their own, plus the registration that matches it.
Pits, yards and terminals
Gravel at Massillon, rail at Brewster and Navarre
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists two sand and gravel operations about nine miles east of Dalton: Rohr & Sons Nursery & Tree Farm at 9 miles and the Oster Sand & Gravel Massillon Plant at 9.3. A dump truck or tri-axle that has worked those pits may still be on site; tell us whose ground it sits on so the pickup is arranged with them.
Brewster’s rail yard lies 7.8 miles south-east and the Neomodal yard 10.9 miles east, according to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle between those yards and local shippers are trucks we buy; a photo of the odometer and the door data plate is a good start.
Toward Canton, the Energy Information Administration lists petroleum product terminals 15.2 and 18.2 miles east of the village. If your tractor pulled a tank trailer out of Canton, list the trailer separately from the tractor when you contact us, and say whether you are selling one or both.
Coal and minerals toward Tuscarawas
The CCU Tuscarawas Strip coal preparation plant is 17 miles south-east of Dalton on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and Sugarcreek Operations, an industrial-mineral mine, is 20.3 miles south. A haul truck kept at either site can stay where it is; give us the mine’s gate procedure and a contact who can let our driver in.
For off-road equipment trucks from those sites, the Mine Safety and Health Administration names the operation, which helps us confirm where the truck is. Send the VIN, the plate if it carries one, and a photo of each side.
Factory work and building trades
Dalton’s 851 jobs in 2023 included 245 in manufacturing, 28.8 percent of the total, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks and tractors tied to a plant’s own shipping are often titled to the company, so the sale is signed by whoever is named on that title.
Construction accounted for 50 local jobs, or 5.9 percent, in the LEHD figures, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 26 construction establishments. A contractor’s dump truck or flatbed can be collected from the job yard; bring the registration and any service records you keep in the cab.
A lost title and the Orrville clerk
In Ohio titles are issued through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and handled by County Clerk of Courts title offices. For Dalton that is the Wayne County Clerk of Courts Title Office at 207 North Main Street, Orrville, 44667, which the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles places 4.3 miles from the village.
If the title for your truck is missing, the Orrville office is where a replacement is requested. Tell us early that the title is being replaced, and send the VIN so we can match it to the new document once it arrives.
Collecting a bulk milk truck from the barn
Around Dalton, Wayne County counts 2,084 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, corn and cattle as its leading products. Milk tankers, grain trucks and livestock haulers from those farms are trucks we collect from the barn lot.
If a farm truck is titled to a family member or the farm’s business name, the person or entity on that title signs it over. Have the title, the registration and a few clear photos ready, and tell us which lane or barn the truck is parked by.
The questions we get asked in Dalton
- The title went missing years ago; is the Orrville clerk the place to start? The Wayne County Clerk of Courts Title Office at 207 North Main Street in Orrville handles titles for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, 4.3 miles from Dalton by the Bureau’s listing. Request the duplicate there and send us the VIN while it is processed.

Give us the plant operator’s name and someone who can unlock the pit entrance for our driver.
- We run a private fleet out of Dalton for our own goods; can the company sell a unit?Dalton has 23 private fleets on FMCSA’s carrier census, and any of them can sell a truck it holds the title to. The officer named on the company’s paperwork signs the transfer.
- Which details does a Dalton grain hauler send at the outset?Grain, feed and hay is the cargo of 14 Dalton carriers in FMCSA’s census, and for those trucks we start with the VIN, the title holder’s name and photos of the truck and its body. Add the farm address where it is parked.
