Sand and gravel on the west side of Dunlap
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Ross Pit 1.7 miles west of Dunlap and Ashcraft Sand And Gravel Incorporated the same distance to the south-west, both as sand and gravel operations. Pits that close to town are served by tri-axle dump trucks and tractors pulling end-dump or belly-dump trailers, and those are trucks we purchase from their owners. If yours has hauled aggregate out of either pit, say which one when you first contact us; the questions that follow will be about the truck, not the route.
County Business Patterns, the Census Bureau’s establishment count, lists 17 construction establishments for Dunlap, the trade that takes the product of those two pits. Service tickets for a dump body or a wet kit belong alongside the photos, and a picture of the bed itself, taken from above where you can reach it, shows us what a cab shot cannot. The truck can stay in the contractor’s yard or at the pit gate; give us the address and the name of whoever opens it.
Twelve carriers, four kinds of cargo, from one Dunlap address list
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 12 active carriers based in Dunlap: nine in general freight, three hauling motor vehicles, two in driveaway/towaway and two in household goods. That mix means straight trucks, car haulers and moving vans more than tankers, and a car-hauler rig or a household-goods straight truck is as ordinary to us as a road tractor. Send the registration with the photos; a vehicle that has carried cars or furniture has a cargo-type record we will want to match against the paperwork.
Six of those carriers cross state lines and six stay inside Ohio, with two of them running private fleets, by the same FMCSA census, and its driver figures put eight drivers inside the hundred-mile radius and 53 beyond it. The three largest fleets in town carry 22, 15 and 12 power units with 27, 15 and five drivers, FMCSA’s census reports. A tractor leaving a fleet that size usually has a maintenance file in the office; ask for it before you call, and have the title in the fleet’s legal name or an explanation of whose name it is in.
Hamilton Avenue
A duplicate title for a Dunlap truck comes from Hamilton Avenue
Ohio titles are issued by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles through County Clerk of Courts title offices, and the one serving Dunlap is the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Title Office at 10964 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, 45231, 4.2 miles from town by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ office search. That office is where a duplicate title for a truck registered here is requested, and it is where a title held in a dissolved company’s name gets sorted out before the sale.
Before you make the trip, compare the name on the title with the name on the registration, and read the lienholder line; a bank whose loan was settled years ago may still be printed there, and the release letter is what clears it. Photograph the VIN plate on the door and the odometer while you are at the truck, and keep the registration with the title. A truck whose paperwork is in one envelope is collected without a second visit.
Yards at ten miles
Rail yards and ramps to the south-east
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the IVORYDALE rail yard 10.9 miles south-east of Dunlap and VALLEY JUNCTION 11.1 miles to the south-west. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics adds two intermodal ramps, Sharonville 11.8 miles east and Queensgate Yard 13.2 miles south-east. A day cab that has shuttled containers off either ramp is a truck we buy; send the VIN, the odometer reading and a photo of the fifth wheel, and say whether the chassis-pool paperwork is still in the cab.
Cincinnati’s port is 12.8 miles south-east of Dunlap in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ listing, and the Energy Information Administration places the CINCINNATI NORTH petroleum product terminal 12.1 miles in the same direction. A tractor that has pulled tank trailers from that terminal or flatbeds from the river docks has a history we would like in writing: terminal access cards, tank-wash receipts, the endorsements on the driver’s record. None of it is required; all of it shortens the conversation.
Three hundred-odd farms
Hopper trailers and stock trailers on the farms outside Dunlap
Dunlap’s side of the county is still farmed: USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 322 farms in Hamilton County and names corn, soybeans and cattle as its leading products. Grain from a farm here moves in a hopper trailer behind a road tractor and cattle in a stock trailer behind a straight truck or a heavy pickup, and the tractor that does it is a truck we buy even if it only leaves the barn at harvest.
A farm truck often carries a farm plate and a title that has not changed hands in a generation. Have the title out before you call, look for the lien release if a bank ever held the note, and photograph the odometer and the door-post VIN plate. The truck can be collected from the barn lot; tell us whether a tractor-trailer can turn in the lane or whether a rollback should come instead.
