Grain, feed and farm supplies out of Eaton
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 83 active motor carriers based in Eaton, and 34 of them list grain, feed or hay among the loads they carry. If your tractor or straight truck has spent its seasons hauling corn and beans to elevators around Preble County, it may well be parked on a farm lane rather than in a yard. Give us the road name and the nearest crossroad, and say whether the ground is firm enough for a rollback to reach it.
Farm supplies come up for 22 Eaton carriers in that same federal census, and general freight for 37. A truck that splits its year between fertiliser runs and dry-van work tends to carry two sets of paperwork, so gather the title, the current Ohio registration and any service invoices into one folder before you call us.
Seventeen local carriers in the FMCSA listing haul machinery and large objects, which usually means lowboys, step-decks and the tractors that pull them. Should you be selling the trailer along with the power unit, send a photo of the trailer’s VIN plate and its own title alongside the tractor’s.
Fields and livestock
Preble County’s corn, soybean and hog farms
Corn leads the crops on Preble County’s 1,044 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with soybeans and hogs close behind it. Grain trucks, hopper-bottom tractors and livestock haulers belong to that kind of farming, and all three are trucks we buy from owners around Eaton.
Many farm trucks sit in a pole barn for months between harvests. Before we come out, check that the title is in your own name and not still in a parent’s or a farm partnership’s; if it is held by an LLC or a family operation, have whoever signs for that entity ready on the day.
Hog operations named in the agriculture census often keep a livestock trailer and a separate grain truck on the same property. Tell us about every unit you want gone in one message, so a single trip out to the farm can cover the lot.
Gravel pits and stone quarries near town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Wysong Gravel West Alexandria pit 5.9 miles east of Eaton and the Wysong Camden pit 9.3 miles south. Dump trucks and end-dump trailers working those two sand and gravel operations are part of what we collect, from the pit lot or from your home.
North-east of town, MSHA records a crushed-stone quarry at Lewisburg, 7.2 miles out, and another at Phillipsburg, 16 miles away. When a quarry truck is parked on site, pass along a gate code or the name of the scale-house contact with your photos.
Construction employs 136 people in Eaton according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, and County Business Patterns puts 29 construction establishments in the area. Tri-axle dumps and roll-off trucks from those contractors can be sold with the hoist and bed attached; list the body make in your first note.
Half of Eaton’s jobs are in manufacturing
LEHD figures from the Census Bureau put 3,493 of Eaton’s 6,980 jobs in manufacturing in 2023, which is 50 percent of all employment in town. Box trucks and day cabs that shuttle parts between plants are a familiar sight on these streets, and we buy those from their owners as readily as farm equipment haulers.
The Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD job counts list 118 people in transportation and warehousing and 62 in wholesale trade. If your truck belongs to a shop or distributor rather than a trucking company, it is still yours to sell; bring the title and a letter from whoever is authorised to sign for the business.
Private fleets number 48 among Eaton’s registered carriers in FMCSA’s census, set against 42 interstate and 41 intrastate operators. A private-fleet truck hauls its owner’s own goods, and the business that owns it should have its registration and title in the company name ready for the pickup.
Where Eaton’s drivers take their trucks
Across 36 Eaton carriers reporting mileage, FMCSA’s census gives a median of 7,000 miles a year per truck. Write the odometer reading down from the dash and include it with your photos of the cab, the frame and the tires.
FMCSA’s carrier records list 148 Eaton drivers working within 100 miles and 82 who go beyond it. Should your truck be out on a run when you contact us, tell us when and where it will next be parked, and we will arrange to meet it there.
Two Eaton fleets in FMCSA’s census operate 20 power units apiece, and a third has 11 power units with 22 drivers. Selling several trucks from a fleet that size works best with a simple list of VINs, titles and where each one sits, and we will schedule the pickups around your dispatch.
Bridges, rail yards and the fuel terminal
Of the 8 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records in Eaton, one is load-posted and one clears under 14 feet. The National Bridge Inventory puts the low one, carrying St Clair Street over a tributary of Seven Mile Creek, at 10 feet 11 inches; if your truck is parked near it, mention the street when you describe the route in.
Rail yards at Middletown, 22 miles south-east, and New River, 22.3 miles south, appear in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that pulls containers or lumber from either yard can be collected near the rail line or back in Eaton, whichever suits you.
Todhunter Terminal, a petroleum product terminal 23.6 miles south-east per the Energy Information Administration, rounds out the list of nearby freight sites. Tanker tractors that load there are welcome too; tell us whether the tank trailer is included and have its inspection records to hand.
Titles, liens and newer carriers
Find the title before we schedule anything for a truck registered around Eaton, and if it has gone missing, apply to Ohio’s title office for a duplicate first. Check that the name printed on it matches yours, or that of the business selling the truck.
FMCSA’s census records 6 new carriers registered in Eaton in 2025 and 7 in 2024. If you are one of those newer operators and the truck is still financed, have the lender’s name and your account number ready, and we will sort out the lien release with them.
The questions we get asked in Eaton
- My grain truck sits at the end of a dirt lane in a Preble County field outside Eaton; can a rollback reach it there?Preble County has 1,044 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and plenty of trucks we collect are parked on one of them. Send the road name, a pin or nearest crossroad, and a note on whether the lane is gravel or dirt.
- I haul out of the Wysong pits. Do I have to bring the dump truck into town? The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the West Alexandria pit 5.9 miles east and the Camden pit 9.3 miles south of Eaton, and we come to the truck at either. Name whoever runs the pit office, so the gate is open for the collection.
- The truck is still financed through a lender. Does that stop the sale?Eaton saw 6 new carriers register with FMCSA in 2025, and many newer operators still owe on a truck. Have the lender’s name and your account number ready, and we will sort out the lien release with them.
- Is there anything about the roads I should mention when booking a pickup?St Clair Street’s bridge over a tributary of Seven Mile Creek clears 10 feet 11 inches in the National Bridge Inventory. If your truck or trailer sits on that side of it, say so and describe another way in.
