General freight, reefers and meat out of Gahanna
Of the 114 active Gahanna-based motor carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight shows up on 82 cargo lists. If your tractor or box truck has been on general freight runs out of a Gahanna yard, send us the VIN, the cab type and a few photos of each side, and we can start from there.
Refrigerated food and meat each appear on the cargo lists of 11 Gahanna carriers in that same federal census, with paper products on 9. A reefer unit or an insulated box adds its own questions, so tell us the make of the refrigeration unit and keep any service records for it with the title.
The census also splits the town’s carriers by how far they go: 67 are registered for interstate work, 45 for intrastate, and 24 run as private fleets moving their own company’s goods. A private-fleet truck is titled to the business, so the person who signs for the sale should be someone that business authorises to sign.
Big and small operators
Single trucks and small fleets alike
According to FMCSA registrations, the three biggest fleets in Gahanna run 53, 23 and 20 power units. One truck is as welcome as ten; if you are selling several, list each unit’s VIN and where it is parked so we can plan one visit.
New operators keep arriving: the carrier census shows 9 Gahanna carriers registered in 2025 and 8 in 2024. If you started up recently and are now selling the truck you bought to do it, have the title and current registration in your name before we collect.
Of the 41 local carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median comes to 40,000 miles per truck a year. Tell us your truck’s odometer reading up front, along with the engine make, since those two details shape every other question we ask.
How old the inspected Gahanna trucks are
Between late August 2024 and late August 2026, inspectors stopped 474 trucks belonging to Gahanna carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put their median model year at 2018. Whatever year yours is, the model year printed on the title and registration is the one we work from, so check that the two agree.
Just over a quarter of that inspected group, 27.6 percent by the FMCSA roadside inspection records, carried a model year ten or more years back. Older or newer, we buy commercial trucks of every year, and photos of the data plate on the door jamb save a round of questions.
Where the trucks go
Terminals and yards around town
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Norfolk Southern TBT liquid bulk terminal 8 miles south-west of Gahanna and the Transflo CSXT terminal 10.8 miles out in the same direction. If your tanker or tractor is parked at one of those sites, give us the gate contact and we will arrange the collection with them.
Two rail yards, Bannon at 8.4 miles and Watkins Road at 9.9 miles, both south-west, appear in the North American Rail Network. Trucks that shuttle between Gahanna and those yards can be picked up wherever they sit at the end of a shift; just tell us the address.
To the north-west, the Energy Information Administration lists the Columbus petroleum product terminal 7.9 miles away, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Columbus Plant crushed-stone quarry 11.6 miles south-west. A dump truck or fuel hauler from those runs sells the same way: title, registration, photos and a location.
Construction, factories and warehouses by the numbers
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 22,057 jobs in Gahanna in 2023, with 1,321 in construction, 1,137 in manufacturing, 1,127 in transportation and warehousing and 692 in wholesale trade. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks from any of those trades are all trucks we buy.
Gahanna’s area holds 87 construction firms and 15 warehousing firms, going by the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If the truck belongs to a contractor or a warehouse operator, have the company’s paperwork ready alongside the title.
Out in the county, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 372 farms in Franklin County, growing mainly soybeans, corn and potted flowering plants. A grain truck or straight truck kept on a farm can be collected from the farm itself.
Bridges and clearance near Gahanna
The National Bridge Inventory lists 22 bridges in Gahanna and none of them carries a load posting. If we are bringing a lowboy or rollback to collect, that tells us the local crossings do not carry weight limits we need to route around.
The National Bridge Inventory also shows one Gahanna bridge clearing under 14 feet: the ramp from I-270 to I-670 over Johnstown Road, at 13ft 8in. If your truck is parked near Johnstown Road, mention it and we will plan the route for a tall load accordingly.
The questions we get asked in Gahanna
- My truck is parked at a yard south-west of Gahanna, near the Bannon rail yard. Will you pick it up out there, or does it have to be brought home to Gahanna?Leave it at the Bannon end; the North American Rail Network places Bannon 8.4 miles south-west of Gahanna, and we collect from yards like that one. Send the yard’s street address plus a name and phone number for the person who opens its gate.
- My company hauls only its own goods in its own trucks. Is that a fleet you take trucks from?A private fleet qualifies; FMCSA’s carrier census lists 24 private fleets based in Gahanna, and a private fleet’s trucks are bought the same way: the title in the business’s name and someone authorised to sign for it.
- Is a reefer truck something you buy here?Reefer straight trucks and tractors are on our list, and in the federal carrier census 11 Gahanna carriers haul refrigerated food and 11 haul meat. Send photos of the reefer unit and the box along with the cab, and the refrigeration unit’s service records if you have them.
