Freight, machinery and farm loads from Lancaster yards
General freight shows up on 115 of the 195 active Lancaster motor carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. If your tractor has pulled dry vans or flatbeds out of town for one of those outfits or on your own authority, send the VIN, the title and a set of photos of the cab and the frame, and we can start from there.
Machinery and large objects appear on 42 Lancaster carrier registrations in the same FMCSA census, motor vehicles on 26 and farm supplies on 25. Lowboys, car haulers and grain or feed rigs all fit what we collect; tell us the trailer type and whether it goes with the tractor or stays behind.
Of the Lancaster carriers on file with FMCSA, 133 run intrastate only, 61 cross state lines and 70 are private fleets hauling their own goods. A private fleet truck sold by a business needs the title in the company’s name and someone able to sign for it, so have that person lined up before we schedule the pickup.
Tri-axles hauling sand and gravel southeast of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Plant # 8, a sand and gravel operation 16.6 miles south-east of Lancaster, and Hocking Valley Concrete Inc at 19 miles in the same direction. A tri-axle or quad dump that has worked those pits may be parked at the plant yard rather than at home; give us the site and a contact who can let us in.
Northeast of town, the HEATH petroleum product terminal sits 21.8 miles away according to the Energy Information Administration. Fuel tankers that load at Heath can be collected from the terminal area or from your own lot, and please send any tank inspection records you hold along with the photos.
Rail and Rickenbacker
Intermodal yards west toward Columbus
RICKENBACKER INTERMODAL is a rail yard 19.1 miles west of Lancaster on the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle containers there tend to stay near the ramp, so tell us whether the truck is parked at a drop yard or back in Fairfield County.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Columbus rail intermodal ramp 18.9 miles west and the Rickenbacker and NG Rickenbacker military installations at 19 and 19.2 miles. Southeast the other way, the North American Rail Network puts the OLD TOWN rail yard 17.5 miles out. We pick the tractor up at whichever yard it sits in, near Columbus or out by Old Town.
Grain trucks and stock trailers in Fairfield County
Around Lancaster, the 1,082 Fairfield County farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture put corn first, soybeans second and hogs third. A single-axle grain truck or a hog hauler kept in a barn between harvests is something we buy; have the title handy, and if it was never registered for the road, say so up front.
Farm trucks often sit on the property they serve, down a lane or behind a grain bin. Tell us how the truck is reached and whether a gate or a wet field stands in the way, and we plan the collection around the farm, not the other way round.
Jobs, fleet age and bridges around Lancaster
Manufacturing accounts for 2,231 of Lancaster’s 18,461 jobs in the Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD job counts, construction for 856, wholesale trade for 383 and transportation and warehousing for 289. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau show 125 construction establishments, so service bodies, flatbeds and box trucks from building firms are part of what we pick up here.
Across 189 trucks checked at FMCSA roadside inspections between August 2024 and August 2026, the median model year was 2019, and 29.1 percent were ten or more years old. Any model year is fine with us; the registration and the service records you have are what we ask for.
Of 35 bridges around Lancaster in the National Bridge Inventory, 2 carry posted load limits and none clear less than 14 feet. Tell us the route to where the truck stands, so the carrier we send for a heavy unit can plan around those posted spans.
The questions we get asked in Lancaster
- My dump truck sits at a gravel plant south-east of Lancaster - can it be picked up there? The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Plant # 8 at 16.6 miles and Hocking Valley Concrete Inc at 19 miles south-east, and we collect at the plant itself when someone there can open the gate.
- I run a small Lancaster outfit that started last year. Can I sell one of our tractors?FMCSA’s carrier census shows 19 new carriers registered in Lancaster in 2025 and 13 in 2024; a company that young sells a tractor to us the same way a long-standing one does, with the title in the company name and an officer to sign.
- Is a truck from a big local fleet any different to sell? The three largest Lancaster-based fleets in FMCSA’s census run 169, 95 and 88 power units. Whether you have one truck or a block of them, send the VINs and titles and we take each one on its own.
- The title is lost - how do I sell a Lancaster truck without it?Ask the state’s title agency for a duplicate before the pickup, and tell us when you contact us so we can work around the wait.
