Sand, gravel and the Millwood operation
South-west of town, United Aggregates digs sand and gravel 0.9 miles from Mount Vernon’s center on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s roster. A dump truck or tri-axle working that pit can stay parked at the pit or at your yard; we collect it there. Send the VIN, a photo of the bed and the hoist, and the name on the Ohio title.
Up toward Fredericktown, 5.6 miles north-west, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records the Fredericktown Plant, another sand and gravel site. Eastward, 11.8 miles out, MSHA’s list also names Select Materials-Millwood Operation, an industrial-mineral mine. If your truck spent its seasons between those two, tell us which site it worked from and keep any scale tickets or service logs together with the title.
Knox County’s 46 construction establishments, as County Business Patterns records them, sit alongside 126 construction jobs located in Mount Vernon in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Owners of a single dump truck or a small pair of them can sell one unit and keep the other; tell us which one you are letting go.
Knox County hog barns and grain fields
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,303 farms in Knox County, with hogs, corn and soybeans at the top of the list. Grain trailers, livestock haulers and straight-truck feed bodies are common on those farms, and a truck sitting in a machine shed or a barn lot is fine with us. Give us the farm road address and a phone number for whoever can open the gate.
Of the 113 active carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census places in Mount Vernon, 33 haul grain, feed and hay. A farm-plated truck still needs its title in the seller’s name, so check that before harvest ends and the truck goes back in the shed. Photos of the hopper, the tarp and the cab interior help us understand the setup before we call.
Van freight, lowboys and log loads
General freight is the most common cargo line among Mount Vernon’s carriers, with 68 of them listing it in FMCSA’s carrier census. The same FMCSA census shows 27 that move machinery and large objects and 23 that carry logs, poles, beams and lumber. A lowboy tractor, a log truck with a loader, or a van tractor all fit what we buy; tell us the body or trailer type in the first message so we ask the right questions.
Plant floors in Mount Vernon account for 1,757 jobs, 15.5 percent of the town’s 11,321 positions in 2023, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Those LEHD counts give wholesale trade 270 jobs and transportation and warehousing 71. Box trucks and straight trucks that serve plant docks in town can be picked up at the yard where they are parked after the shift; have the keys and registration on hand.
One-truck owners and company fleets
FMCSA’s carrier census splits Mount Vernon’s carriers into 76 that run intrastate and 36 that cross state lines, and 42 of them are private fleets hauling their own goods. A business that owns its trucks for its own deliveries sells them the same way a for-hire carrier does: title, registration and a contact who can show the truck.
Fleets registered here run as large as 40, 31 and 30 power units, according to the federal carrier census, with 34, 37 and 22 drivers. If you are trimming several trucks at once, list each VIN and where each unit is parked, and we work through them one at a time from that list.
New carrier registrations in FMCSA’s census came to 9 in 2024 and 8 in 2025 for Mount Vernon. An owner-operator who started in one of those years and is now stepping back can sell the tractor without selling the trailer; tell us which pieces are included.
Drivers, miles and inspected trucks
Among 46 carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median truck ran 18,724 miles a year. The carrier census also counts 247 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 273 who go beyond that. If your truck is out on a route when you contact us, give us the address of the yard or terminal it returns to and we arrange collection there.
Of 84 Mount Vernon trucks stopped for roadside checks from September 2024 to August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2015, with 57 percent ten or more model years old. Whatever the model year of yours, the year, make, model and VIN from the title are what we need first, followed by photos of each side of the truck.
Clearances in town and the Newark yards
Across its 12 spans in Mount Vernon, the National Bridge Inventory shows zero weight postings and zero clearances under 14 feet. A tall dump body or a loaded lowboy can reach town streets without a detour around a posted span, so tell us the exact address and whether the lot has room to turn a tractor.
Two rail yards, Newark and Newark West, sit about 23 miles south of town on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Whether your truck is parked near Newark or in Mount Vernon itself, we pick it up at that spot, and you stay where you are.
