West to north-east
Gravel, coal and stone around Nelsonville
Mckee Materials LLC, a sand and gravel operation listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies 2.6 miles west of Nelsonville. A dump truck or tractor that has shuttled aggregate out of that pit is often still parked near the scale house or at the owner’s yard, so tell us which one and who can let us in.
Out to the north-east, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records CCU Athens Strip, a coal mine 8.4 miles from town, and Sergeants Plant, a crushed-stone quarry 19.6 miles away. If your truck served either site, gather the title, the current registration and any site inspection sheets you kept before you contact us.
Hocking Valley Concrete Inc, a second sand and gravel operation, appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings 8.8 miles north-west of Nelsonville. Owners who hauled from it can send photos of the bed, the frame and the cab, plus the VIN plate, and we will work from those.
According to FMCSA’s carrier census, 34 motor carriers are active in Nelsonville, and 16 of them list general freight as a cargo. Box trucks, day cabs and straight trucks from those outfits all fit what we collect; have the registration and the odometer reading on hand when you call.
Twelve Nelsonville carriers in the FMCSA census report hauling machinery and large objects, and nine report logs, poles, beams and lumber. A lowboy tractor or a log truck with a loader should be described in full, attachments included, so the photos you send cover the whole rig.
Five local carriers carry commodities dry bulk, per the federal carrier census kept by FMCSA. Tell us whether your hopper or tanker trailer goes with the tractor or stays behind, and we will plan the collection around that answer.
In-state routes
Ohio-only hauling and company-owned trucks
Of the 34 active carriers, FMCSA’s census shows 25 operating intrastate and 9 interstate, with 15 running private fleets that move their own goods. A private-fleet truck is usually titled to the business, so the person signing needs authority for that company, and a lost title goes to the state’s title agency before pickup.
The FMCSA census also tracks newly registered carriers here: four in 2025 and one in 2024. A newer operator selling a first truck should have the bill of sale or loan release from the purchase alongside the title.
Eleven Nelsonville carriers reported mileage to FMCSA, and the median stood at 11,214 miles per truck. That reading is simply a fact to share with us; put the current odometer figure in your first message so our questions start from it.
Athens County roadside
Whatever the year on your truck, the steps are the same: title, registration, VIN and a set of clear photos.
Of those 30 Nelsonville trucks, 63 percent carried a model year at least ten years back, by the same FMCSA roadside inspection records. If you have a copy of your last inspection report, keep it with the truck’s papers, since it confirms the VIN and the unit details in one sheet.
The biggest local fleet in the FMCSA census runs 20 power units with 28 drivers, and two others run seven units each. An owner selling several units at once can send a single list of VINs and locations, and we will arrange each collection from it.
Bridges, rail and the training site
The National Bridge Inventory counts 11 bridges in Nelsonville, none posted for load and none under 14 feet of clearance. Tell us the street where the truck sits and whether a tow truck can turn in, and the route to it is ours to plan.
The North American Rail Network, compiled by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the OLD TOWN rail yard 10.5 miles north-west of town. Trucks that ran loads to that yard can be collected from wherever they ended up, whether in Nelsonville or out along the valley.
About 24.6 miles north-east, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the NG McConnelsville Training Site, a military installation. If your truck is stored on or near a restricted property, give us the name of the person who controls access so the collection can be arranged with them.
Wholesale, building and cattle
Nelsonville employers and Athens County farms
Wholesale trade accounted for 105 of Nelsonville’s 1,807 jobs in 2023, a 5.8 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. For building work, the town has 10 construction establishments on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A delivery truck or contractor’s dump truck from either line of work comes with the same short list: title, registration, photos.
Across Athens County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 663 farms, with corn, cattle and milk at the top. A grain truck, livestock hauler or milk tanker parked at a farm can stay there; send the farm address and the gate details with your photos.
The questions we get asked in Nelsonville
- Who issues a new title for a Nelsonville truck when the original is lost?Nelsonville owners apply to the state’s title agency for a duplicate title. Start that request before pickup, and send us the VIN and registration in the meantime.
- Will you take a grain or livestock truck off an Athens County farm?Athens County has 663 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by corn, cattle and milk, and the grain, livestock and milk trucks that serve them are trucks we buy. Photos taken in the barnyard or field lane where it sits are fine.
- Can a Nelsonville fleet owner sell several power units in one go?The largest Nelsonville fleet in FMCSA’s carrier census runs 20 power units, so multi-truck sales here are familiar to us. List each VIN with its location and we arrange each pickup.
