A yard next door
MOTOR yard and the Maple Heights ramp
Barely 0.7 miles north-east of Northfield, the MOTOR yard shows up on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. A day cab that shuttles freight to and from that yard often sits parked within a mile of it between loads, so give us the lot address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Maple Heights Intermodal lies 5.3 miles north-west, again according to the North American Rail Network. If your tractor pulled containers off the Maple Heights ramp, have the VIN, the current registration and a few photos of the cab, chassis and fifth wheel ready before you call; those three things settle most of our first questions.
Brecksville, Cuyahoga and the lakefront tanks
Two petroleum product terminals appear in Energy Information Administration listings near town: Brecksville, 6.7 miles south-west, and Cuyahoga, 9.3 miles north-west. A tanker tractor that loads at either one may be kept at a fuel yard rather than at home, and we arrange collection wherever it is parked.
Closer to the lake, Transflo CSXT at 12.3 miles and Cleveland Terminal at 12.8 miles are both liquid bulk terminals on Bureau of Transportation Statistics records. Keep site inspection sheets and service logs from terminal work with the title; they show us what the truck hauled.
Pit and dock haulers
Hugo Sand Company Incorporated, a sand and gravel operation on Mine Safety and Health Administration rolls, works 14.3 miles south-east of Northfield. Dump trucks and tri-axles that haul from a pit like that tend to stay on the job site, so tell us whether the truck can be reached by a road the tow rig can use.
To the north-west, Dock #1 Whiskey Island is a mineral processing plant 14.5 miles out according to Mine Safety and Health Administration records. If a truck that worked the island dock is still parked near the water, send the exact spot and a contact on site, and you can complete the sale from wherever you are.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 44 active carriers based in Northfield, 30 of them listing general freight, six machinery and large objects, six motor vehicles and five refrigerated food. Box trucks, car haulers, lowboys and reefer units all fit what we purchase, so name the body type when you first get in touch.
Of those carriers, the federal census shows 21 running interstate, 22 intrastate and 10 operating as private fleets. Eight new carriers registered in 2025 against one in 2024, per FMCSA. A private fleet selling a single unit needs the same things an owner-operator does: a signed title, the registration and someone with authority to sign for the company.
The biggest fleet in town fields 51 power units and 56 drivers on FMCSA’s carrier census, and the next two run eight and seven trucks. Whether you are moving one tractor or several, list the VINs together so a single visit can cover them.
How new the local trucks are, and how far they go
FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 150 trucks inspected between September 2024 and August 2026, with a median model year of 2023 and 6% ten or more years old. Whatever the model year of yours, the odometer reading and the last inspection report help us describe it accurately.
Across 12 reporting carriers, the median truck logged 29,415 miles in a year according to FMCSA’s carrier census, which also records 42 drivers working within 100 miles and 102 beyond. A tractor that runs long routes may be away when you decide to sell, so tell us where it will be parked at the end of its current trip.
Wholesale docks and Summit County corn
Northfield held 1,709 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, with manufacturing at 94 and wholesale trade at 65. Delivery trucks tied to plant floors and wholesale docks are often titled to a business, so check whose name is on the title before you reach out.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 41 construction establishments in the area, while USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 413 farms in Summit County growing corn and soybeans and raising cattle. Grain trucks and livestock haulers from those farms are welcome; if a title has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues the replacement, and we can wait while you apply.
The questions we get asked in Northfield
- Can you collect a tractor left near the MOTOR yard off the edge of Northfield?MOTOR sits 0.7 miles north-east of Northfield on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from lots like that one. Send the lot address plus the name of whoever unlocks it beside the tracks.
- Do you take tanker tractors that load at Brecksville or Cuyahoga?Energy Information Administration listings put the Brecksville terminal 6.7 miles and the Cuyahoga terminal 9.3 miles from town, and tractors that serve them are trucks we purchase. Send the VIN, registration and photos of the tractor.
- Can I sell a single unit out of a private fleet?FMCSA’s carrier census lists 10 private fleets among Northfield’s 44 carriers, and one truck from any of them qualifies. Have a signed title and someone authorised to sign for the company.
