Gravel west of Sidney, stone to the south-west
Hardin Sand and Gravel is listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as a sand and gravel operation 3.9 miles west of Sidney, and Barrett Paving Materials Inc runs a crushed-stone quarry 5.6 miles to the south-west. A dump truck or tri-axle that loads at either site can stay parked at the pit yard or at your shop on the edge of town; give us the address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Farther out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Piqua Materials, a crushed-stone quarry 14.4 miles south, and Neer’s Sand & Gravel LLC, 16.6 miles east. If your truck hauls between those sites and Shelby County jobs, tell us which pit it works from most weeks so we know which side of town to plan the collection around.
For any aggregate hauler, photograph the body, the hoist, the frame rails and the tires along with the cab and the dash, and have the title in the name that appears on the registration.
Tank work toward the AIP Logistics terminal
AIP Logistics, a liquid bulk terminal, sits 18.8 miles north of Sidney according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Tractors that pull tank trailers to and from that terminal are part of what we buy, and the tractor can be sold with or without the trailer.
If the tractor has served a terminal like that one, keep its site paperwork together with the title: inspection reports, service records and the VIN plate photo.
Manufacturing holds over a third of local jobs
Of 14,261 jobs counted in and around Sidney for 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, 5,293 were in manufacturing, a 37.1 percent share. Box trucks, straight trucks and day cabs that shuttle parts and finished goods between plants are all trucks we buy here.
That same LEHD tally puts 686 jobs in wholesale trade and 322 in transportation and warehousing, while County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 4 warehousing establishments here. A truck that has been working a plant dock can be collected right from that lot; check with the site that a pickup is allowed and send us the contact.
Construction carries 1,114 of those LEHD jobs, and the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns lists 52 construction establishments. Flatbeds, dump bodies and equipment haulers from those contractors are welcome here, with the title and a set of walk-around photos ready to send.
Grain and hog hauling off Shelby County farm lanes
Shelby County’s 933 farms, tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, rank corn first, then soybeans, then hogs. Grain trucks, hopper tractors and livestock haulers that run between those farms and the elevators often sit on a farm lane between seasons, and we collect from the farm itself.
Among the 127 active carriers based here in FMCSA’s carrier census, 21 list farm supplies as a cargo and 18 list grain, feed and hay. A farm truck registered to a family operation needs the title signed by every name on it, so check that before you send us photos.
Sidney carriers on the federal register
General freight is the cargo 73 Sidney carriers list with FMCSA, and 26 haul machinery and large objects. In that same federal census, 75 carriers operate intrastate only, 47 cross state lines, and 58 run private fleets moving their own goods.
Fleet sizes on FMCSA’s register run from one carrier with 580 power units and 625 drivers down to fleets of 54 and 40 units, and new registrations numbered 8 in 2024 and 5 in 2025. Selling a single Sidney tractor or a row of them off one yard, give us every VIN and the lot each one sits on.
Drivers working for these carriers are counted by range in FMCSA’s census: 638 staying within 100 miles and 586 going beyond it; for the 44 carriers that report mileage, the median is 20,795 miles per truck. Put your own truck’s odometer figure and VIN in the first note you send from Sidney.
Bridges, inspections and pickup routes
The National Bridge Inventory lists 25 bridges in Sidney, 2 of them load-posted and 1 with clearance under 14 feet: Park Road over Tawawa Creek, at 8 ft 5 in. If your truck is parked on a lot reached by Park Road, tell us so the collection route avoids that crossing.
FMCSA roadside inspection records from August 2024 to August 2026 cover 400 trucks inspected here, with a median model year of 2021 and 9 percent ten or more years old. Whatever the model year of yours, send the title, the registration and any service records you have with the photos.
