Freight, car haulers and coil flatbeds
Out of 102 active carriers on file for Stow, 75 haul general freight, going by FMCSA’s carrier census. If yours is a van or reefer tractor from one of those outfits, have the title, the current Ohio registration and the VIN ready when you first contact us, and the rest of the conversation can be about where the truck is parked.
Smaller groups in the same federal census carry specialised loads: 19 Stow carriers list motor vehicles, 12 list machinery and large objects, and 11 list metal sheets, coils and rolls. A car hauler, a lowboy tractor or a flatbed set up for coil each gets photographed differently, so send pictures of the headache rack, the deck or the hauler rig along with the cab and the frame.
Of those carriers, 61 run interstate, 40 stay inside Ohio and 24 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods, according to FMCSA registration filings. A private-fleet truck often sits at the owner’s own shop or plant rather than a truck yard; give us that address and the name of whoever can let us onto the property.
Stow owner-operators and their bigger neighbours
Three Stow fleets in FMCSA’s carrier census run 141, 97 and 45 power units, with driver rosters of 141, 94 and 45. Selling several tractors from an operation that size works best as one list: VIN, unit number and the lot where each one is parked, so the collections can be planned together.
New operators keep arriving too, with 13 carriers registering in Stow in 2025 and 11 in 2024 under the federal motor carrier census. If you started up in the last couple of years and are now selling your one truck, the paperwork is the same as for a large fleet: the title in your name or your company’s, and any lien release if the truck was financed.
Across 33 Stow carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covered 51,198 miles a year. Put that odometer figure and the VIN at the top of your message about a Stow truck, since every later question builds on those two.
Inspection stops and Stow model years
Between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records logged 272 trucks run by Stow carriers, with 2021 as the median model year. Late-model tractors like these often come with service files or telematics history, and sending those with the photos tells us how the truck has been looked after.
Those same FMCSA roadside records show 15.1 percent of the 272 Stow trucks at ten or more model years old. Whatever the model year, we buy it; for an older unit, a copy of its most recent annual inspection report is the single most useful document to have on hand.
Sand, gravel and fuel around Stow
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Hugo Sand Company 4.6 miles east of Stow and Beck Sand & Gravel 7.9 miles east. Dump trucks and tri-axles that load at pits like these are often parked right at the operation; tell us which pit, and whether the truck can be reached from the road without moving other equipment.
South and south-west of town, the Energy Information Administration places the Akron petroleum product terminal 6 miles away and the Tallmadge terminal 7.6 miles away. A fuel tractor that has worked those racks can be collected at the terminal lot or at your yard, whichever is easier for you; just say which, and who holds the gate key.
Farther out, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Transflo CSXT liquid bulk terminal 24.2 miles north-west. If your tanker tractor was based out there rather than in Stow, we collect it where it stands, so there is no need to bring it home first.
Rail yards and clear bridges
Two rail yards sit close by on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Hill, 6.5 miles south-west, and Brittain, 7.7 miles south. Day cabs that shuttle loads between those yards and local docks tend to stay parked near them, and we can collect a truck from a yard-side lot as readily as from a driveway.
None of the 13 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records for Stow carries a load posting, and none has clearance under 14 feet. A tractor parked in town can therefore be reached on local roads, so all we need from you is the street address and a note on any gate or tight turn on the lot itself.
Wholesale, manufacturing and Summit County farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 12,759 jobs in Stow in 2023, with 1,469 in wholesale trade, 1,073 in manufacturing, 316 in construction and 240 in transportation and warehousing. Box trucks and straight trucks that deliver for local wholesalers are welcome alongside tractors; send the body length and liftgate details with the photos.
Stow has 65 construction establishments on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns for the city. A contractor’s dump truck or flatbed often sits on a job site between uses, so tell us the site address and the name of the person on site who can point us to it.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 413 farms in Summit County, led by corn, soybeans and cattle. A grain truck or livestock hauler kept on a farm can be collected right there; a clear lane to the barn and the title in hand are all the visit needs.
The questions we get asked in Stow

Give us the pit’s name and a contact who can let us in.

- My tractor is a 2021 model. Is that too new for you?The median model year among 272 Stow-linked trucks in FMCSA roadside inspection records is 2021, so that is typical here. We buy late-model and older trucks alike; send the VIN, odometer reading and photos.
