Warehouse jobs and freight carriers in Union
Of the 2,171 jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place in Union for 2023, 1,004 sit in transportation and warehousing, which is 46.2 percent of the total. If your tractor has been shuttling trailers between distribution buildings around town, tell us the yard or dock where it is kept between loads; that is the address we collect from.
Beside the warehouses, the LEHD job counts put 207 Union jobs in wholesale trade and 145 on factory floors. A box truck or straight truck making deliveries for one of those employers is something we purchase too; have the registration in the name shown on the title, and photos of the cargo box inside and out alongside the cab.
Gravel pits and quarries around the village
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Phillips Vandalia Plant, a sand and gravel operation, just 0.6 miles north of Union. Dump trucks and tri-axles that load there often never leave a few miles of the pit, so if yours is parked at the plant or a contractor lot nearby, give us the gate contact and we will arrange collection on site.
Further out, MSHA records show the PHILLIPSBURG crushed-stone quarry 5.3 miles west, Portable Plant #1 about 6.5 miles north-west, and Milton Materials, LLC, a sand and gravel operation, 8.4 miles to the north. For a truck that has hauled stone from any of these, send the VIN, a photo of the bed and the hoist, and any service records you have kept.
Needmore, Dayton and the fuel terminals to the south-east
Heading south-east toward the city, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows the NEEDMORE rail yard 8.9 miles from Union and the DAYTON yard at 11.7 miles. Day cabs that drayed containers or freight to those yards can be sold from wherever they now sit; tell us the street address and whether a tow rig can reach it.
The Energy Information Administration lists petroleum product terminals at DAYTON, 10.7 miles south-east. If your tractor pulled a fuel tanker out of those racks, keep the tank inspection paperwork with the title, since it travels with the trailer if you sell the pair together.
Union’s eleven registered haulers and their loads
Union is home base for 11 active trucking operations on FMCSA’s carrier census. Five of them list general freight as cargo, two haul farm supplies, two carry metal sheets, coils and rolls, and one handles garbage and refuse. Each of those cargo types goes with a different truck body, so describe the trailer or body that came with yours when you get in touch.
Six of the 11 run interstate, five stay intrastate, and six are private fleets hauling their own goods, according to the same federal census. FMCSA’s census also shows one local operation running 8 power units with 4 drivers and another with 2 power units and 5 drivers. Whether you are selling one unit or several, list each VIN and where it is parked, and we will plan one visit around all of them.
Grain and cattle hauling around Montgomery County farms
Union’s home county had 789 farms when USDA took its 2022 Census of Agriculture, and corn heads the county’s crop list ahead of soybeans, with cattle third. Grain trucks and livestock haulers kept in a barn or at the edge of a field can stay there; send a pin or directions to the farm lane along with the photos.
If the truck is registered to the farm rather than to you, the title still has to be signed by every owner it names, so check the names on it before you call.
Union paperwork: titles, company names and photos
Construction employs 139 people in Union on the Census Bureau’s LEHD figures, and contractors here often keep a truck under a company name. If the title is in a business name, have the signing officer available and a copy of whatever shows they can sign for the company.
For every truck, the short list is the same: the title, current or last registration, the VIN, a set of clear photos of the cab, frame and tires, and any inspection reports. With those in front of us, the only questions left are about where the truck is and who meets us there.
The questions we get asked in Union
- Our tri-axle stays at the Phillips Vandalia sand pit outside Union; does it have to come off the site? The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Phillips Vandalia Plant 0.6 miles north of Union, and we collect from a site like that directly. Give us the name of the person who can open the gate, so the pickup is arranged with them.
- The tractor I sell pulled coil flatbeds from a Union base; is that a truck you take? Two of Union’s 11 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census list metal sheets, coils and rolls as cargo, and the tractors that pull those flatbeds are trucks we buy. Send photos of the tractor and tell us whether the trailer goes with it.
- I moved out of Ohio and left the truck by the Needmore yard near Dayton; how does a sale work from out of state? The rail yards at NEEDMORE and DAYTON sit 8.9 and 11.7 miles south-east of Union on the North American Rail Network, and a truck parked near either one can be collected without you there. Name someone local who can hand over the keys, and sign the title from wherever you are.
