Gravel south of town, sand to the east
Two sand and gravel operations listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, South Central Sand & Gravel and Piketon Sand & Gravel, lie about 8 and 8.7 miles south of Waverly. A dump truck or tri-axle that spends its days between those pits can stay parked at the yard it works from; give us the gate address and the name of whoever holds the key.
East of town, DTS Sands runs the Beaver Mine about 10.1 miles out and a bag plant about 17.3 miles out, both listed as industrial-mineral sites by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. If your tractor or straight truck has hauled from either one, photograph the cab, the frame rails and the tires in daylight and send them with the VIN so we start from the truck itself.
Westward, Latham Limestone #1 is a crushed-stone quarry roughly 16.2 miles away according to MSHA records. Stone haulers that run that route often sit at a quarry lot between loads, which is fine with us: tell us whose ground it is on so the collection can be arranged with the site.
Yards, then a training base
Rail yards and the base to the north
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the Renick yard about 13.4 miles north and the Chillicothe yard about 13.9 miles north. A day cab that shuttles freight to those yards can be picked up wherever it is parked between runs, whether that is a terminal lot in Chillicothe or a driveway in Waverly.
Sixteen miles north, the NG Camp Sherman Joint Training Center appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings as a military installation. Trucks that deliver onto a guarded site are better collected from somewhere off it, so if yours is kept near the gate, move it to an open lot or give us a contact who can sign us in.
Bunks, lowboys, car haulers
Log, lumber and freight loads out of Waverly
Of the 66 Waverly carriers active in FMCSA’s census, 27 put logs, poles, beams and lumber on their cargo list. A log truck or a lumber flatbed sells the same way as a highway tractor: have the title in the registered owner’s name, the registration card, and a note on any loader or bunks fitted to it.
General freight is listed by 34 of those carriers, machinery and large objects by 13, and motor vehicles by 12, again per the federal carrier census. Lowboys, rollbacks and car haulers are all trucks we buy, so tell us the body type and the trailer setup when you first get in touch.
Most of the town’s fleet stays close to home: of the registered operators, 53 run intrastate and 12 interstate, and 27 are private fleets hauling their own goods, according to FMCSA. A private-fleet truck owned by a business needs the company’s officer to sign the title, so line that person up before the pickup date.
Small fleets, short radius, older model years
Across the carriers on file with FMCSA, 104 drivers work within 100 miles and 70 go further. In FMCSA’s census, eleven carriers report miles, with a median of 30,000 a year per truck; send your own odometer reading with the VIN when you write to us.
The three biggest operations in town run 47, 25 and 12 power units, with 25, 18 and 9 drivers, on the federal motor carrier census. Selling several units at once is straightforward: list each VIN, where each one is parked, and which titles are in hand.
Roadside inspections recorded by FMCSA between September 2024 and August 2026 covered 56 trucks from Waverly carriers, with a median model year of 2014.5 and 62.5 percent at ten years or older. Whatever year yours is, the paperwork list stays the same: title, registration and any service records you kept.
Pike County payrolls
Plants, contractors and corn, milk and tomato farms
Of Waverly’s 3,805 jobs in 2023, 550 sat in transportation and warehousing and 414 in manufacturing, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. If your truck ran for a plant or a warehouse rather than for hire, the owner named on the title is who signs, so check whose name is on it before we schedule the collection.
Construction accounts for 60 jobs on the same LEHD figures, and County Business Patterns counts 15 construction establishments. Contractors selling a dump body, a crane truck or a service body can send photos of the equipment mounted on it alongside the chassis.
Pike County holds 478 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with corn, milk and tomatoes leading. A grain truck or a milk hauler kept at a farm can be collected right there; give us directions to the barn or the shed it sits in.
Liens and lost titles
Lenders on the title, and replacements from the state
Waverly picked up 6 new carriers in 2024 and 5 in 2025, per FMCSA registrations. A newer operator who financed a truck should find out whether a lender is still listed on the title, since that lien has to be released before ownership can pass.
If the title has been lost, request a replacement from the state’s title agency before we collect, and keep the registration and your ID together with it. An owner who has moved away from Pike County can still sell a truck left here by sending us the address and a contact on site.
The questions we get asked in Waverly
- Can my dump truck stay at the Piketon-area sand and gravel pit where it works?South Central Sand & Gravel and Piketon Sand & Gravel sit about 8 and 8.7 miles south of town on MSHA’s list, and we collect from pit yards like those. Name the pit and a person there who can open the gate for the pickup.
- Does a timber hauler with bunks and a knuckle-boom fit what you buy?Logs, poles, beams and lumber are carried by 27 of Waverly’s 66 active carriers in FMCSA’s census, and those trucks are on our list. Send the VIN, the title details and photos of the bunks or loader.
