Sixty small trucking outfits in West Carrollton
Of the 60 active carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census with a West Carrollton address, 49 tick the general freight box on their registration. That makes a dry van tractor the truck we hear about most often from sellers in this town, so a photo of the cab, the frame rails and the fifth wheel tells us most of what we need to start.
The same federal census lists 35 of those carriers as interstate and 25 as staying inside Ohio, while 16 run private fleets that haul their own goods. If your tractor belonged to a private fleet attached to a plant or a shop, tell us so, and bring the registration showing whose name it was in.
Fleets here are small: the three biggest carriers in the FMCSA census for West Carrollton run 9, 5 and 4 power units. A one- or two-truck owner selling up is the usual case, and the title in your own name plus a phone call is all it takes to begin.
Car haulers, flatbeds and coil trucks
Beyond general freight, nine West Carrollton carriers in FMCSA’s census haul motor vehicles, seven move machinery and large objects, and seven carry metal sheets, coils and rolls. Car hauler rigs, step decks and flatbeds with coil racks all fit what we collect, so mention the trailer or body type when you first get in touch.
If the truck pulled a car carrier or a coil trailer, say whether the trailer goes with it or stays behind. A short list of what comes with the sale, such as straps, chains, ramps or racks, keeps the pickup in Montgomery County from turning into a second trip.
Thirteen of these carriers reported annual mileage to FMCSA, and their median was 50,000 miles per truck. Have the odometer reading and the VIN written down before you call; those two numbers come first in every conversation we have.
The 2019 midpoint from thirty-three stops
Thirty-three trucks run by West Carrollton outfits were stopped for FMCSA roadside inspections from September 2024 through August 2026, and the middle model year among them was 2019. Send us the year, make and model of the West Carrollton truck along with a few photos of the cab and chassis.
Those inspection records also put 30.3 percent of the inspected trucks at ten or more model years old. Whatever the year on yours, gather any inspection reports and service invoices into one folder and leave it in the cab for the pickup.
Dump work for the Barrett Paving pit and its neighbours
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Barrett Paving Mats Inc-West Carrollton, a sand and gravel operation 0.8 miles north-west of town, and Eagle Materials’ Ernst Agg Plant 5 about 6.6 miles to the south-west. Dump trucks and tri-axles that worked those pits are trucks we buy, and we can collect from a yard near either one.
Farther out, MSHA records a crushed-stone quarry at Huber Heights, 15.6 miles north-east. Census Bureau County Business Patterns figures count 21 construction establishments for the area, and the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 133 local jobs in construction in 2023. If your dump body or plow gear is still mounted, list it so we know exactly what we are loading.
Two Moraine yards, two DAYTON tank farms
Two rail yards, MORAINE TV at 2.6 miles and MORAINE at 3.7 miles, both north-east of town, appear in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that shuttled loads to those yards can be picked up wherever it is parked, so give us the street address and a gate contact.
About 9.4 and 9.5 miles north-east, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals under the name DAYTON. Fuel tankers and the tractors that pulled them are on our list; tell us what product the tank carried and whether it has its current test paperwork.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics also places Wright-Patterson Air Force Base 14.9 miles north-east of West Carrollton. If you are being posted away from the base, the truck can stay behind: leave it with someone who can hand over the keys, and finish the sale from your new station.
Plant jobs, warehouses and county farms
Manufacturing held 1,143 of the 5,973 West Carrollton jobs counted in the Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD figures, and transportation and warehousing another 719. Box trucks and straight trucks that ran between plants and loading docks are trucks we collect, and a photo of the box interior and the liftgate helps.
LEHD also puts 163 West Carrollton jobs in wholesale trade that year. A route truck from a wholesale business sells the same way as a tractor: the title, the keys, and a note on where it is parked.
Montgomery County had 789 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and corn, soybeans and cattle top the list. A grain truck or livestock hauler parked on a county farm can be collected from the field lane, provided you tell us how to reach it.
Newer carriers
Carriers that started in the last two years
Fifteen West Carrollton carriers joined FMCSA’s carrier census in 2025, up from ten that signed on during 2024. If you started your authority recently and are now closing it, keep the registration and title together, since both are needed for the transfer.
For a new operator whose truck is still financed, the lender’s name and a payoff letter are the documents to locate first. Ohio title paperwork moves once the lien is released, and we can work around a lender that still holds the title.
The questions we get asked in West Carrollton
- My dump truck is parked at a pit near the Barrett Paving site. Should I haul it off the gravel ground before you arrive? The Mine Safety and Health Administration places that sand and gravel operation 0.8 miles north-west of West Carrollton, which is close enough that we collect right there. Tell us who controls access to the yard.
- I ran general freight as a one-truck carrier. Does a plain dry van tractor fit what you collect?General freight is listed by 49 of the 60 West Carrollton carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and a dry van tractor from a one-truck outfit is exactly what we purchase. Have the title in your name and the VIN ready.
- My orders take me away from Wright-Patterson soon; can the sale close once I have left Ohio?Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is 14.9 miles north-east of town on Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, and the truck can stay in the area after you leave. Name someone local who can hand over the keys on the day.
- My truck hauled steel coils. Does the coil rack go with it?Seven West Carrollton carriers list metal sheets, coils and rolls in FMCSA’s census, so coil gear is familiar to us. Tell us whether the rack and chains stay on the truck and we will include them in the pickup plan.
