An army reserve centre named for a city four miles away
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts a United States Army Reserve centre at a point 0.20 miles from the Census centre.
It carries the name of the city up the valley rather than the name of the place it stands in, which is ordinary for a military installation.
Two yards of the same name, on either side of it
Beyond the reserve centre, the rail nearby has an oddity of its own. The North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists two yards carrying one city’s name 4.4 and 4.7 miles off, operated by two different carriers.
Closer than either, a yard sits 3.0 miles away at Avis. So the same rail network data puts three rail yards within five miles of a community of three and a half square miles.
Stone up the valley and down it
Beyond the rail, the working traffic is limestone at both ends. A quarry works 6.2 miles off at Jersey Shore with 9 people and the Salona Plant 7.7 miles away with 13, in opposite directions along the same valley.
