Beyond the lime, the stone gets substantially larger eastward. Lincoln Stone works 9.1 miles off with 13 people, the Thomasville Mine 11.4 miles away at Spring Grove with 68 — the largest payroll within twenty miles — and the Gettysburg Quarry 10.0 miles out the other way with 11.
Further on, a white cement works sits 16.1 miles off with 48 people, the Roosevelt Avenue Quarry 17.6 miles away and a rail logistics terminal 15.7 miles out. This borough is 18.4 miles from the centre of York.
Rail is thinner. A yard sits 3.7 miles off and another 11.4 miles away at Gettysburg, so most of what moves here moves by road for its whole journey.
