A one-man quarry inside the place
The Sterling Quarry reports one employee to Mine Safety and Health Administration, under Eureka Stone Quarry. It lies half a mile from this place’s centre — inside it rather than near it.
A one-person operation runs no highway fleet of its own, so the truck connection here runs through the district rather than through the pit. The district is the western edge of the Poconos, and it is busy.
Here Monroe County restricts 13 township-maintained structures against four of its own, and neighbouring Pike County 11 against seven, on the National Bridge Inventory’s record. Under 67 Pa. Code ch. 189 the townships are therefore the authorities a lane must satisfy.
A ten-mile circle that reaches into New Jersey
Those crossings are not all in one state.
Eighteen are coded below legal loads, only two of them county-maintained. The nearest is 2.20 miles out and the lowest operating rating among them is 3.6 metric tonnes, under the level at which any commercial vehicle crosses even empty.
A truck running between the Sterling Quarry and the Pocono Sand Plant about 6.6 miles south-west, or down to Hercules Cement about 17.3 miles south, crossed restricted township structures on most routes and carried part loads over them. Springs, hoist and pins show that first.

Between the Pocono Quarry Plant about 6.8 miles south and Ardent Mills about 9.1 miles north-west they turn up steadily.
