Stone pits just east of Blackhawk
Rapid City Quarry & Mill, a crushed-stone quarry, sits just 3.2 miles south-east of Blackhawk on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and KONECHNE MINE, an industrial-mineral mine, lies 3.3 miles due east. A tri-axle dump or a belly-dump tractor that cycles between those two gates is the kind of truck we buy, and it can wait for us at the pit, at your shop or in your driveway.
A second site called Rapid City Quarry turns up 5 miles south-east in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings, and 63 Mobile 1, a sand and gravel operation, is logged by that federal agency 7.5 miles to the east. Because a portable gravel spread moves from job to job, tell us the road the truck is actually parked on this week, and send the VIN with a photo of each side and one of the box.
Haul trucks from these pits often carry scale tickets in the door pocket. Leave them in the cab: they show what the truck carried and from which gate, which saves a round of questions once we look it over.
Kiln and junction
A cement kiln and a rail siding off Blackhawk’s south-east side
The cement plant run by GCC Dacotah Inc is 5.8 miles south-east of Blackhawk, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Pneumatic bulk tankers and mixer trucks that load at that kiln are on our list; keep the registration and any plant gate pass together with the keys.
Eight miles out on the same south-east bearing, the North American Rail Network, maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places a rail yard named PRESSLER JCT. A day cab that drays between that siding and local customers can be picked up beside the tracks or back home in Blackhawk, wherever the keys are.
Trucks parked by the Guard camps
Two military installations sit just south of town on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ map: NG West Camp at 5.6 miles and NG Camp Rapid at 5.9 miles to the south-east. A truck stored on ground near either camp does not have to be driven back to Blackhawk before you sell it.
Fenced lots near a base usually mean a locked gate or a sign-in. Give us the lot name, the person who holds the code and the hours they are free, and the driver we send will be expected at the entrance.
Freight, lowboy and log loads out of Blackhawk
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 38 active carriers based in Blackhawk; 25 of them declare general freight, 18 machinery and large objects, 13 logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 11 grain, feed and hay. That spread covers lowboys, log trailers with their tractors, hopper-bottom rigs and plain dry vans, and every one of those fits what we purchase.
Of those registrations, 27 run interstate and 11 stay inside South Dakota, while 19 are private fleets hauling their own goods, again per the federal carrier census. If your outfit is one of the private ones, a truck titled to the business needs the officer who signs for it present or a signed authorisation ready.
The biggest Blackhawk operation on FMCSA’s rolls fields 42 power units and 68 drivers, with the next two at 19 units and 10 units. Whether you have one tractor or a whole yard to clear, list each VIN and where it is parked, and we plan the pickups unit by unit.
Sixty-two Blackhawk trucks pulled over for a look
Roadside inspections between September 2024 and August 2026 checked 62 Blackhawk-based trucks, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put their median model year at 2018.5. Have the exact model year and engine on hand when you call, since those two details settle most of what we ask.
Roughly 45 percent of those Blackhawk tractors and straight trucks carried a model year a decade or more back, the same FMCSA roadside inspection records show. Older or newer, the steps are the same: title, registration, a photo of the dash with the key turned and pictures of all four sides.
Across 21 reporting carriers, the FMCSA carrier census gives a median of 33,333 miles per truck a year. Note your own odometer reading when you send the VIN so the listing matches the truck.

Blackhawk duplicates at the Meade County Treasurer
South Dakota titles run through the South Dakota Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicles Division, which works through county treasurer offices. For a Blackhawk owner, the South Dakota Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicles Division directory points to the Meade County Treasurer at 1300 Sherman St. Suite #107, Sturgis, 57785, a county treasurer office 20.2 miles from town by that same South Dakota Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicles Division listing.
Apply for the duplicate at that Sturgis window before we set a pickup, carrying your ID and the current registration. If a bank still shows as lienholder, bring its lien release so the new title prints clean.
Crews and cow-calf places
Building crews and Meade County ranches
Construction filled 184 of Blackhawk’s 444 jobs in 2023, a 41.4 percent share, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES), and the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns lists 51 construction establishments. Flatbeds, service bodies and dump trucks from building crews are trucks we take, single units or several from one contractor.
Beyond the subdivisions, Meade County holds 797 farms, with cattle, wheat and corn heading the list, by USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A cattle pot, a tandem grain truck or a hay hauler on farm plates can be collected right from the ranch yard; just tell us how it is plated and where it sits.
The questions we get asked in Blackhawk
- Will you load my dump truck right at the Blackhawk-side quarry it works?Rapid City Quarry & Mill is 3.2 miles south-east of Blackhawk by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect from pits like it. Tell us which gate to use and who can let a driver in.
