Granite quarries a few miles out
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Carnelian #3 Quarry, a crushed-stone operation, 5.4 miles east of Milbank, with the Dakota Mahogany dimension-stone quarry at 5.8 miles and Carnelian #2 at 6.2 miles on the same side of town. A dump truck or flatbed tractor that has worked those pits can stay parked at the quarry yard; send us the gate location and a contact who can let a driver in.
Twenty-four miles to the west, Summit Sand & Gravel appears in the same Mine Safety and Health Administration listing. A truck that hauled aggregate from that pit may now be parked at a yard nearer Milbank; tell us which one, and keep the title and the registration card together in one place.
Grain, hay and farm machinery on Grant County roads
Of the 53 active carriers based in Milbank on FMCSA’s carrier census, 24 list grain, feed and hay as cargo, 22 general freight, 19 machinery and large objects, and 16 farm supplies. Hopper-bottom tractors, lowboys that move equipment between farms and straight trucks for feed deliveries all belong on the list of what we purchase.
A grain truck or livestock rig often sits on a farmyard between seasons; give us the farm address and a note on whether a driver can reach it after rain, and we plan the collection around that.
A truck that carried farm supplies or bulk feed may have spent its life on gravel section roads. Photos of the cab, frame, fifth wheel and tires, plus the VIN, are the first things we ask for, so take them where the truck stands now.
Fleets and range
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 34 private fleets among Milbank’s registered operators, alongside 32 interstate and 21 intrastate carriers. A business that runs its own trucks for its own goods sells to us the same way an owner-operator does: one title, one truck, one pickup address at a time, or several listed together.
Drivers registered here split into 104 working within 100 miles and 158 beyond it, according to the same FMCSA census. Across the 25 carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median comes to 12,066 miles a truck each year. If your tractor is out on a long route right now, tell us where it will be parked when the load is done.
The three biggest fleets in town run 46, 39 and 23 power units on FMCSA’s carrier census, with 27, 68 and 24 drivers. A fleet retiring several units at once can send one list of VINs, and we work through the titles together rather than truck by truck.
Have the year, make and model ready when you contact us, since that is the second question after the VIN.
Whatever year your truck is, keep any inspection reports and service records you have in the cab or in one folder; they travel with the title on the day of collection.
Bridges and the route to your yard
The National Bridge Inventory counts 7 bridges in and around Milbank, none with clearance under 14 feet and 1 carrying a posted load limit. When you send the pickup address, mention any posted bridge or soft approach on the way in, so the truck sent to collect yours can take a route that fits.
A tractor parked behind a shop on Milbank’s main streets or out at a quarry gate both work for us. Tell us whether the truck has keys, whether it sits on concrete or dirt, and who will be on site.
Manufacturing accounts for 484 of the 2,581 jobs in Milbank, or 18.8 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, and wholesale trade adds 219 more. A box truck or tractor that moved product out of a plant or warehouse here can be sold by the business that holds the title; have someone authorised to sign for the company.
Construction employs 86 people in town on those LEHD counts, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 17 construction establishments. Dump trucks and flatbeds from contractors fit what we buy, and a lost title goes through the state’s title agency, so start that request before the sale if the original is missing.
Transportation and warehousing holds 75 jobs, 2.9 percent of the total, on the same Census Bureau figures. If you are a driver who owns your own tractor, the title in your name and a current registration are the two papers that matter most.
