Pits east of town, cement kiln to the west
Just 2.3 miles east of Rapid Valley, the sand and gravel pit called Portable #110 is registered with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A tandem dump or end-dump that has spent its seasons hauling out of that pit can stay right there on the lot; give us the pit address and the name of whoever holds the gate key, and we arrange collection with them.
Seven point three miles west, GCC Dacotah Inc runs a cement plant that the Mine Safety and Health Administration also tracks. Mixer and bulk pneumatic trucks that load at a cement plant are trucks we purchase. Send a photo of the drum or the tank along with the cab and the VIN plate.
Another gravel site, 63 Mobile 1, is listed by MSHA 6.9 miles north-west of town. Portable crushers move, so if your truck followed that spread from site to site, tell us where it is sitting today rather than where it last worked.
The Rapid City fuel terminal and two yards
According to the Energy Information Administration, a petroleum product terminal labelled Rapid City stands 2.9 miles north-west of Rapid Valley. Tank trucks and transports loading there are part of what we buy; have the title and current registration together, and mention any tank test certificates you kept, since they go with the truck.
Two rail yards appear in the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Rapid City, 3.5 miles west, and Pressler Jct, 4.4 miles west. Day cabs and flatbeds that shuttle freight to and from those yards are welcome, and a tractor parked near either one can be collected there.
If a tractor or trailer worked transloading at the yards, list what it pulled and roughly where it ran. That short note, plus the VIN and an odometer reading, answers most of the questions we would otherwise ask by phone.
Hauling onto the air base and the Guard camp
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places Ellsworth AFB 6 miles north of Rapid Valley and NG Camp Rapid 7.2 miles west. Box trucks, flatbeds and dump trucks that deliver gravel, fuel or supplies onto installations like these are all trucks we buy.
If you are posted at Ellsworth and orders are moving you on, the truck does not have to leave with you. Park it where someone can reach it, send us the address and a local contact, and finish the sale from your next duty station with the title signed over by mail.
Contractor yards on the Rapid Valley side of town
Construction accounts for 97 of the 533 jobs located in Rapid Valley, 18.2 percent of the total, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Pickups with dump beds, flatbed trucks, water trucks and small tandems from a construction outfit are all trucks we will look at.
For a contractor selling one unit off a small yard, have the title in the business name, the registration card and any service invoices from the shop that kept it. Photos of all four sides, the cab interior and the dash give us a clear first look.
Pennington County ranch and grain trucks
Across Pennington County there are 650 farms, and cattle lead wheat and corn among what they raise, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Grain trucks, cattle haulers, flatbeds for hay and ranch service trucks come off operations like those, and we buy them straight from the farm or ranch.
A ranch truck often sits out at a pasture gate or a machine shed miles from a paved road. Tell us the turnoff, whether the lane is gravel and if a trailer can turn around at the yard, and we plan the pickup to suit.
A Pennington County ranch truck on farm plates is sold on a title showing the seller’s name, the same as any other. If the title was misplaced years ago, start the duplicate request with South Dakota’s title agency before we schedule, and tell us when it is on its way.
