Peninsula outfits

Eighteen carriers on one strip of coast

FMCSA’s carrier census lists 18 active trucking companies based along this stretch of Gulf shoreline, home to 2,951 residents by the census. If you run one of them and want to sell a tractor or straight truck, send us the VIN, a few photos of the cab and frame, and the address where it parks between jobs.

General freight is the cargo listed by 8 of those carriers in FMCSA’s census, with 3 hauling logs, poles, beams and lumber, 3 moving machinery and large objects, and 2 carrying farm supplies. Tell us which of those loads your truck pulled, and whether a flatbed, lowboy or van trailer goes with it, so we know what we are collecting before we arrive.

New outfits still register on the peninsula: FMCSA’s carrier census shows one new carrier in 2024 and another in 2025. A young operation selling its first truck needs the same things as an older one, chiefly the title in the company’s name and the registration that matches it.

Short Gulf runs

Texas-only authority on the peninsula

Of the peninsula’s carriers, 15 are registered for intrastate work and only 3 for interstate hauling, by FMCSA’s census, and 8 run as private fleets moving their own goods. A private-fleet truck is often titled to the business rather than to a driver, so have the company officer who can sign it lined up before pickup.

FMCSA’s carrier census counts 24 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 12 going farther. For most local trucks, that means the truck is at a yard or driveway on the peninsula when we come for it; tell us if it is parked on the Galveston side instead.

Across the 5 carriers that report it, the median truck covers 10,000 miles a year in FMCSA’s figures. Write the current odometer reading on your note to us along with the VIN, since those two numbers start every conversation about a specific truck.

Seven tractors at the top of the list

The biggest peninsula fleet on FMCSA’s carrier census runs 7 power units with 7 drivers, the next 3 units with 1 driver, and a third 2 units with 3 drivers. Selling one truck out of a yard that size is routine for us; if you plan to sell two or three, list each VIN so we can collect them on one visit.

With fleets this size, the person selling is usually the owner. Keep the maintenance log or service invoices in the cab, and photograph the door sticker with the VIN so the paperwork and the truck line up on the day.

Southwest to the ports

Pelican Island, the Port of Galveston and the WEST yard

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places Martin Midstream, a liquid bulk terminal, 17.4 miles south-west of town, and the Energy Information Administration lists the GALVESTON - PELICAN ISLAND TERMINAL for petroleum products at the same distance. If your tractor has pulled tankers to Pelican Island, mention it when you write, along with any site paperwork you still hold.

Port of Galveston - Terminal 1, a roll-on/roll-off dock, lies 18 miles south-west by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, with Terminal 8 at 19.6 miles. A truck working those docks may be parked on the island when you sell; give us the street address there and we come to it.

Further along, the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows the WEST rail yard 19.7 miles south-west. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics also records Galveston TX MCRC, a military installation, 16 miles out in that direction.

A missing certificate goes through Galveston’s tax office

In Texas, titles are handled by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles through county tax assessor-collector offices. For Bolivar Peninsula, that is the Galveston County Tax Office at 722 21st St, Galveston, 77550, 18.6 miles from town according to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

If the certificate is lost or still lists a lienholder who has been satisfied, request a copy there before we schedule collection. Bring the VIN, your ID and any lien release, and tell us once the duplicate is in hand.

Posted span, Galveston farms

Bridges, builders and ranches

The National Bridge Inventory (Federal Highway Administration) lists 6 bridges on the peninsula, one of them load-posted and none with a clearance under fourteen feet. Tell us if your truck sits behind that posted crossing, so we bring a rig that can reach it legally.

The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 651 jobs on the peninsula in 2023, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 5 construction establishments. A dump truck or flatbed from one of those builders can be sold the same way as a road tractor: VIN, photos, title, location.

Across Galveston County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture tallies 563 farms, with cattle, horses and goats leading. Livestock haulers and farm-supply trucks from those operations are trucks we buy too; send photos of the bed or trailer along with the cab.
