Feed, hay and grain move most of Claude’s freight
Grain, feed and hay account for 17 of Claude’s 32 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. Those outfits tend to run hopper-bottom tractors, belly-dump trailers and farm trucks with grain beds, and they are often parked at a bin site or beside a barn rather than at a terminal. Give us the address of the place the truck actually sits and a gate code if there is one, and we plan the pickup there.
Farm supplies are hauled by 9 of the town’s registered outfits, according to the same FMCSA census. A truck that delivers seed, fertilizer or chemical to fields around Claude may carry a tank, a flatbed or a spreader body. Photograph the body and the tractor separately, and note anything that was bolted on after the truck left the factory, so we know exactly what is being sold.
Livestock trailers off the Armstrong County ranches
Ten Claude-based outfits carry livestock, FMCSA’s carrier census shows, a little more than half the count for grain. Cattle pots and gooseneck stock trailers pulled by day cabs or pickups are the usual kit. If you are selling the tractor and keeping the trailer, or the other way round, say so at the start so the photos and the paperwork cover only what is changing hands.
Ranch trucks are often titled to a family member or a farm partnership rather than to the driver. Check whose name is on the title before you call; if it is a partnership or an estate, have the paper that shows who can sign for it.
A short walk to the Armstrong County courthouse
In Texas, titles run through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, and its county tax assessor-collector offices handle the counter work. For Claude that is the Armstrong County Tax Office in the courthouse at 101 S Trice, about 0.2 miles from the middle of town by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles’ own listing. A lost title can be replaced there before we schedule the pickup.
Bring the registration, any lien release from a bank or farm credit lender, and your ID when you visit the courthouse. If a lien is still open, tell us who holds it; a title with the release attached is what lets the sale close cleanly.
Private fleets on Texas farm roads
FMCSA’s carrier census splits Claude’s outfits 26 intrastate to 6 interstate, and 23 of the 32 are private fleets hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. A private farm or ranch truck often has no logbook history to hand over, and that is fine; the title, the registration and a few clear photos of the cab, frame and tires carry the sale.
Driver records in that census put 39 drivers working within a hundred-mile radius and 44 working beyond it. If the truck is a long-haul tractor that sits in Claude only between trips, tell us when it will be home so the collection lands on a day it is actually parked.
Short seasons, low yearly miles
Ten Claude carriers report annual mileage to FMCSA, and the median among them is 5,115 miles a truck. Put the current odometer reading and the VIN in your first message; we work the rest of our questions from those two.
The biggest fleet registered here runs 29 power units with 5 drivers, by FMCSA’s census, and the next two list 22 and 19 power units. If you are thinning a fleet like that, send a list of units with their VINs and we can look at several for one visit.
Cotton modules, sorghum and horse barns
Around Claude, the 184 farms counted in Armstrong County by USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture list cotton, sorghum and equine as their leading products. Module trucks, grain trucks and horse trailer rigs all come out of that mix. Tell us what the truck hauled in season; it helps us match the right equipment for collection.
Construction accounts for 9 establishments in the county, County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau reports, and the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 220 jobs in the area for 2023. Dump trucks and flatbeds from those small contractors are trucks we buy too, wherever they are parked.
The questions we get asked in Claude
- My truck’s title went missing somewhere on the ranch near Claude - who issues a new one?The Armstrong County Tax Office at 101 S Trice, in the courthouse about 0.2 miles from town, handles titles for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Sort the duplicate out at that counter, then book the collection.
- Do you collect from a farm or ranch outside town? Most of Claude’s 32 FMCSA-listed carriers are farm, feed and livestock outfits, so trucks often sit at a barn or bin site. Send the address and any gate instructions and we come to it.
- Can I sell a tractor and keep the stock trailer?Ten Claude outfits haul livestock by FMCSA’s census, and a tractor can be sold on its own. Tell us which piece is for sale and photograph only that one.
- Which papers does a Claude farm truck sale need?A Texas title in your name or your farm’s name, the registration, any lien release, the VIN, the odometer reading and photos of the cab, frame and tires.
