Limestone next door
Beckmann and Helotes quarries, a short haul from Cross Mountain
Beckmann Quarry cuts crushed stone 6.1 miles south-east of Cross Mountain, by the reckoning of the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that loads rock there might sit in a yard off the quarry road between jobs, and that is a fine place for us to collect it. Text us the yard’s street address plus a phone number for whoever unlocks it at Beckmann.
Helotes Quarry is 6.9 miles south of town, on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list of crushed-stone sites. Trucks hauling aggregate from it to job sites around Bexar County often belong to an owner-operator who keeps the paperwork at home rather than in the cab. Before you call, put the title, the current registration and a photo of the VIN plate in one folder on your desk.
Kilns and sand pits
Cement plants and gravel pits east and south-east
Capitol Cement Plant & Quarry lies 16.4 miles south-east, and 1604 Quarry & Plant, another cement operation, is 17.8 miles east; the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists both. Mixer trucks and bulk pneumatic tankers serving those two plants are the kind we purchase, whether the unit is parked at a batch yard or at your house in Cross Mountain.
Smithson Valley Quarry, a sand and gravel operation 17.1 miles east per the Mine Safety and Health Administration, rounds out the list of pits near town. If your truck hauls sand from there, photograph both sides, the bed or trailer, the tires and the dash with the odometer showing, and send those along with the VIN.
San Fernando and the base
San Fernando yard, a fuel terminal and Joint Base San Antonio
On the North American Rail Network, maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the San Fernando rail yard sits 18.4 miles south-east of Cross Mountain. A day cab that shuttles loads to and from that yard can be picked up at the terminal lot, provided the lot operator knows a collection is coming and lets us in.
Some 15.7 miles south-east, the Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal on the San Antonio side. If your tanker loads there, tell us what product the tank last held and whether it has a cleaning certificate, so the pickup is planned for that trailer.
Joint Base San Antonio is 8.8 miles east of town according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A truck stored on or near the base needs a gate pass or an escort arranged by you, so give us a contact who can sort access before collection day.
Twenty-eight trucks based around Cross Mountain were pulled over for inspection from October 2024 to August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give 2020 as their median model year. One in four of those 28, or 25 percent in the FMCSA inspection records, carried a model year ten or more years back. Whatever the year of yours, the title, registration and any maintenance log are what we ask for first.
Cross Mountain held 1,062 jobs in 2023, a figure from the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Of the local employers, 35 are construction establishments according to the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A dump truck or flatbed bought for one of those contractors may be titled to the business rather than to a person, so confirm which name is on the title and who is allowed to sign it.
Hill-country livestock
Cattle pens, horse barns and cornfields around Cross Mountain
Across Bexar County there are 2,107 farms, and cattle, horses and corn top the list of what they raise, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A cattle hauler, a horse-trailer tractor or a grain truck kept in a barn on one of those properties can stay right there; we come out to the ranch.
A ranch truck may be titled to a relative rather than to you. Find the title before calling and check that the name on it matches the person selling, since that is the first thing the state’s title agency will look at when ownership changes hands.
Getting the title right before a Cross Mountain pickup
If the title for a truck kept in Cross Mountain is lost, the state’s title agency issues a replacement, and the request needs the VIN and proof that you are the owner of record. Begin that request early and keep its receipt with the truck’s registration.
Where a bank or finance company still holds a lien, ask the lender for a payoff letter and a lien release. Bring those together with your driver’s license and the registration, and the transfer of a Bexar County truck goes through with no gaps.
