Hay, lumber and freight outfits on the Fabens rolls
For a Census Bureau population of 4,818, Fabens is home base to 75 active trucking carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census. If yours is one of those outfits, the truck is probably parked at a yard or a home lot in town, so give us that address and the name of whoever holds the keys.
Of those carriers, 47 haul general freight, 19 carry grain, feed or hay, and 13 each move lumber and large machinery, according to the same FMCSA census. Tell us which of those loads your tractor pulled and what trailer, if any, goes with it, so we know whether we are collecting one unit or two.
Most Fabens operators stay inside Texas: FMCSA counts 47 intrastate carriers against 27 that cross state lines, plus 14 private fleets hauling their own goods. A Texas-only truck still needs its Texas title and current registration in the seller’s name, so dig those out before you call.
Stone, sand and fuel north of the river road
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Pipeline Quarry, a crushed-stone site, and the MTI Sandpit Cascade Division sand and gravel operation, both about 10 miles north of Fabens. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors that worked those pits can be collected wherever they sit; just send a gate contact and photos of the bed and the cab.
On the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, Rock Dimension Pit sits 11.7 miles north, Soto’s Rock 15.4 miles north-west and the East Loop 375 Sand Plant 17.4 miles north-west. If your flatbed or tractor hauled cut stone from those sites, keep any load tickets or service logs together with the title.
An El Paso petroleum product terminal sits 5.1 miles north-west of town on Energy Information Administration records, and a second one appears 21.1 miles north. A tanker or fuel tractor that ran between them should come with its tank inspection paperwork if you still have it.
Alfalfa and payrolls
Alfalfa yard and the jobs that move freight
Up toward El Paso, 21.6 miles north-west, the Alfalfa rail yard shows on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that shuttled loads to that yard is one we collect from wherever it is parked now, whether in town or in El Paso.
Transportation and warehousing accounts for 395 of the 1,380 jobs located in Fabens, or 28.6 percent, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting adds 156 more on that LEHD tally. If you drove for a local employer and own the truck yourself, the title in your name is what lets you sell it.
Fabens trucks on cotton fields and cattle ranches
Cotton leads, then cattle and honey, among the 581 El Paso County farms tallied by USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Livestock haulers, module trucks and farm tractors kept on a ranch outside town can be picked up from the property; tell us how a truck reaches the spot where yours is parked.
Farm-plated trucks still carry a Texas title, and that title is the document we need at collection. If the farm owns the truck under a business name, have the person authorised to sign for that business available on the day.
Yearly miles, Fabens model years and twelve bridges
Across 25 Fabens carriers that report mileage to FMCSA’s census, the median truck covers 62,667 miles a year. Photograph the dash with the odometer showing and send that shot with the VIN.
Roadside stops of 92 Fabens-carrier trucks between September 2024 and August 2026 put the median model year at 2010.5, with 69.6 percent ten or more years old, on FMCSA roadside inspection records. Whatever the year on your title, send the VIN, the plate and clear photos of every side.
Give us the street address of the yard and we plan the collection route from it.
The questions we get asked in Fabens
- Can my dump truck stay at the sand pit north of Fabens for pickup? The Mine Safety and Health Administration places the MTI Sandpit Cascade Division about 10 miles north of town, and we collect from sites like that where the truck sits. Send the name of whoever opens the pit gate and the days that pit is staffed.
- My hay truck never left Texas; can you still take it from Fabens?Nineteen Fabens carriers haul grain, feed or hay and 47 run intrastate on FMCSA’s census, so a Texas-only hay truck is a common one here. Have the Texas title and current registration ready in your name.
- Which details do you want from a Fabens seller up front? With 75 active carriers registered in Fabens under FMCSA’s census, we ask every seller here for the same short list: the VIN, the odometer reading, photos of the cab, frame and tires, and the address where the truck is parked.
