Mostly in-state carriers
Only 10 of the 55 active carriers based in Hamilton cross state lines, while 45 keep to intrastate work, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. If your tractor or straight truck has spent its working life on Texas roads around town, that is the usual pattern here, and we collect it from the yard or pasture where it is parked.
Of those 55 outfits, 34 are private fleets moving their own goods rather than freight for hire, according to the same federal census. A ranch or feed business selling a truck it used for its own loads should have the Texas title in the business name ready, plus whoever is authorised to sign for the company.
Fresh registrations keep arriving: five new carriers appeared in 2025 and three in 2024, by the federal motor carrier census. A small operator who started up recently and is now letting a truck go can send us the VIN, the title and a set of photos of the cab, frame and tires to begin.
Grain, hay, milk
Feed trucks and livestock country around the courthouse square
Around town, 964 farms are recorded across Hamilton County by USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, cattle and horses as the leading products. Bulk feed bodies, hay haulers and cattle pots that serve those dairies and ranches are trucks we buy, and many of them sit at a barn rather than a shop when the time comes to sell.
Twenty of the local carriers list grain, feed and hay as cargo and sixteen list farm supplies, per FMCSA’s census of registered carriers. If your truck pulled a hopper or a flatbed of round bales, tell us the trailer setup, and whether the trailer is part of the sale or staying on the farm.
Give us directions to the gate, the pasture or the equipment shed rather than a street address if that is easier; a farm truck parked off a county road is a normal pickup for us, and a contact who can unlock the gate is all we need on the day.
Quarry road
SRM Hamilton Quarry and the gravel loads
Six point eight miles north of the square, SRM Hamilton Quarry loads sand and gravel, as listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors that loaded there are part of what we purchase; say which site the truck worked so our questions start in the right place.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 20 construction establishments in the county, a second set of yards where dump bodies, flatbeds and lowboys are kept. If your truck is parked at a contractor’s lot rather than at home, name the lot owner so the collection is arranged with them.
Twelve carriers here list machinery and large objects among their cargo in FMCSA’s census, which covers equipment haulers moving tractors, balers and loaders. A lowboy or tilt deck set up for that work should come with photos of the deck, ramps and winch alongside the cab.
Big rigs, small outfits
One sixty-three-unit fleet beside a lot of one-truck outfits
The biggest operation registered in Hamilton runs 63 power units with 16 drivers, followed by fleets of 23 units with 6 drivers and 21 units with 15 drivers, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. Fleet managers selling several trucks at once can send a single list of VINs and locations and we will work through them together.
General freight is the most common cargo, named by 28 carriers in the federal census, and a median of 13,808 miles per truck is reported across the 10 carriers that filed mileage with FMCSA. Have the odometer reading and the registration to hand when you call; those two facts answer most of our first questions.
Drivers working inside a 100-mile radius number 101, while 119 report driving beyond it, in FMCSA’s carrier census. If your truck is out on a run when you decide to sell, tell us where it will be parked next and we plan the collection there.
What the inspection lanes saw on local trucks
Fifty-eight trucks from Hamilton carriers went through FMCSA roadside inspections between January 2025 and August 2026; those records put their median model year at 2016.5, with 48 percent at ten or more model years. Older and newer trucks alike are ones we buy; the model year simply goes on the description you send.
If your truck went through a roadside inspection recently, keep that report with the title, along with any annual inspection sheet and service records you hold. They give us the truck’s history in writing, and sellers without them can still describe what the truck did instead.
Route to the truck
Bridges, jobs and the route to the pickup
Of the 16 bridges in and around town, the National Bridge Inventory shows one carrying a posted load limit and none with a clearance under fourteen feet. Mention if your truck sits beyond that posted bridge so we bring the right equipment by the right road.
Hamilton held 1,507 jobs in 2023, with 131 of them, or 8.7 percent, in manufacturing, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. A plant or shop selling a delivery truck or a yard tractor should give us the dock or gate where it waits and a contact on site during working hours.
Rice Street office
A replacement title three blocks from the square
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles through county tax assessor-collector offices, and for this town that is the Hamilton County Tax Office at 102 North Rice Street, Suite 110, Hamilton, 76531, which the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles places about 0.3 miles from the center. If the title is lost, request a certified copy there before we arrange collection.
When the name on the title is a ranch, a dairy partnership or a late relative, bring the paperwork that shows who can sign to that same tax assessor-collector counter. Once the title matches the seller, the rest of the sale is a signature and a pickup.
The questions we get asked in Hamilton
- My feed truck is parked at the dairy outside Hamilton. Will you pick it up at the milking barn?USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 964 farms in Hamilton County, and plenty of the trucks we collect here sit on one of them. We come to the barn or pasture; send directions and the name of whoever can open the gate.
- Where do I get a copy of a lost Texas title in Hamilton? The Hamilton County Tax Office at 102 North Rice Street, Suite 110, about 0.3 miles from the center, is the county tax assessor-collector office the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles lists for title copies here. Ask there for a certified copy and tell us once you have it.
- Do you take dump trucks that worked the quarry north of town?SRM Hamilton Quarry, 6.8 miles north according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, is exactly the kind of site those trucks come from, and we buy them. A few photos of the dump bed raised, the hoist cylinder and the cab, plus the VIN off the door jamb, get it started.
