Gillett stone north, Ray Pit stone south
Thirteen point one miles up the road from Karnes City, the Gillett Plant quarries crushed stone, per the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled from Gillett can stay parked at the yard or the quarry lot; tell us which gate it sits behind and who holds the key.
Ray Pit, another crushed-stone quarry, lies 19.4 miles south of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, and Abrego, an industrial-mineral mine, sits 24.9 miles to the north-west by the same agency’s listing. If your truck worked either site, photograph the bed, the frame rails and the cab, and send the VIN with those pictures so we can match them to the title.
General freight shows up on 32 of the 66 Karnes City carrier files in FMCSA’s carrier census. Whether your rig pulls a van, a flatbed or a hopper, the papers we ask for are the same: the title, the current registration and any service records you keep in the cab.
Machinery and large objects appear on 22 of those carrier registrations in the federal census, so lowboys and heavy-haul tractors are part of the local mix. If yours is a heavy-spec tractor, note the axle setup and the fifth-wheel type when you write to us; a lowboy trailer sold with the tractor can be listed on the same enquiry.
Of the 66, the FMCSA census marks 62 as intrastate and only 4 as interstate, with 26 operating as private fleets. A truck that has worked inside Texas for its whole life carries Texas registration, so have that card ready alongside the title.
Ranch trucks on Karnes County land
Cattle lead the county’s farm output, ahead of deer and corn, across the 958 Karnes County farms tallied by USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Nineteen local carriers list farm supplies and another nineteen list grain, feed and hay on their FMCSA registrations. A cattle pot, a grain hopper or a feed truck is often parked out on a ranch rather than in town; give us the ranch road and a gate contact, and the collection is planned around that.
If the truck is titled to a ranch partnership or a family member rather than to you, say so at the start. The person named on the title signs it over, and the state’s title agency handles any correction or replacement before we collect.
Have the model year, the engine make and the odometer reading in hand when you contact us; those three come first on our list.
Those same inspection records put about 38 percent of the 108 trucks at ten or more model years old. A tractor from either side of that line goes through the same steps with us: photos, title, registration and an address where the truck can be reached.
Short hauls and long hauls from town
Local carriers report 171 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 122 going beyond it, on FMCSA’s carrier census. If your truck is out on a long route when you decide to sell, tell us where it will be parked at the end of the run, and we arrange collection there rather than in Karnes City.
Nineteen Karnes City carriers gave FMCSA their annual mileage, and the median truck among them covered 23,077 miles. Write the current odometer figure down from the dash rather than from memory, and include it with the VIN.
The three biggest fleets in town run 49, 37 and 34 power units according to the FMCSA census, with 80, 31 and 20 drivers. Owners of several trucks can send them as one list: VIN, model year and location for each, and we work through them together.
Plant work and contractors around town
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 826 jobs in Karnes City, 83 of them in manufacturing, about 10 percent. A box truck or straight truck that has made plant deliveries here needs only its title, registration and photos of the box and the liftgate to start.
Twelve construction outfits operate in the Karnes City area, going by the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Dump trucks, water trucks and flatbeds from those outfits can be sold from the job site; tell us the site address and whether a loaded truck or trailer is blocking access.
New authorities keep appearing in Karnes City: five carriers registered in 2024 and three more in 2025, the FMCSA census shows. If your authority is new and you are selling a truck you bought for it, the title in your name or your company’s name is what we need.
The questions we get asked in Karnes City
- My truck has never left Texas on a load. Does an intrastate history matter to you?Of the 66 active carriers in FMCSA’s census for Karnes City, 62 are intrastate, so a Texas-only truck is ordinary here. Send the Texas registration with the title and photos.
