Vans, coils and lumber on Katy trailers
General freight is ticked by 1,112 of the 1,388 active Katy carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census; if your tractor hauled it, tell us which trailer it has run with. Say too whether you are selling the tractor alone or the tractor and trailer together.
Beyond general freight, the same federal census counts 185 Katy carriers hauling metal sheets, coils and rolls, 162 moving logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 160 carrying machinery and large objects. Flatbed, step-deck and lowboy combinations show up across those three groups; send photos of the deck, the securement points and the hitch alongside the cab shots so we can see the whole rig.
Of those carriers, 637 run interstate and 749 stay inside Texas, while 191 are private fleets hauling their own goods, per the FMCSA filings. An intrastate truck may carry Texas-only registration, so have the current registration card in hand and say which authority the truck has run under.
Pit trucks north of Katy and toward Fort Bend
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Hockley Mine, an industrial-mineral operation, about 12 miles north of Katy, with the Hockley Plant sand and gravel site at 12.2 miles in the same direction. Dump trucks and end-dumps that work those pits are often parked near the plant gate between loads; give us the yard address and a name who can let us in.
Richmond Material Co, a sand and gravel operation on the MSHA register, lies 17.4 miles south-east toward Fort Bend. If your truck hauled from there, any scale tickets, site safety sign-offs or service records you kept help show where it worked, though none of them is required to sell.
Construction work sits close by too: County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 279 construction establishments in the area, and LEHD job counts put 651 construction jobs in Katy in 2023. Mixers, dump bodies and roll-offs from those contractors fit what we purchase; list the body make and any PTO equipment when you write to us.
Yards west at Sealy, east at North Houston
On the North American Rail Network, the Sealy rail yard lies 18.8 miles west of Katy and the North Houston yard 22 miles east. Day cabs that shuttle between those yards and local customers can be collected from a yard lot or your own drop; tell us which.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Houston-Kendleton intermodal ramp 24.4 miles south-west. If your tractor has pulled chassis and containers off that ramp, send the VIN, the odometer reading and a photo of the fifth wheel first, and we will work out the rest from there.
What Katy inspections say about truck model years
FMCSA roadside inspection records for 1,339 Katy-based trucks between August 2024 and August 2026 put the median model year at 2017. Those same FMCSA inspection records show 43.2 percent of the trucks at ten or more years old; we buy across that whole spread, so state the model year plainly when you get in touch.
Carriers reporting mileage to the federal census give a median of 48,000 miles a truck a year, across 363 Katy filers. Read the odometer before you call and have the title in the name shown on the registration, since those two items settle most of what we ask.
Fleets and newcomers
From single-truck owners to multi-unit fleets
The three largest Katy fleets registered with FMCSA run 460, 197 and 53 power units, with 150, 118 and 20 drivers respectively. A fleet retiring several units at once can list them together with VINs and lot locations, and we collect each one where it stands.
Katy added 134 new carriers to FMCSA’s census in 2024, then 198 more in 2025. If you started a one-truck operation and are closing it, keep your USDOT number handy and the title signed over only when we confirm the pickup.
Harris County ranches and roads
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,531 farms in Harris County, with cattle, equine and potted flowering plants leading the list. Livestock haulers, horse-trailer tractors and nursery delivery trucks off those farms are welcome; a ranch gate or barn lot is a fine collection point.
The National Bridge Inventory lists 44 bridges in and around Katy, none of them load-posted and none with clearance under 14 feet. When you write, say whether the truck stands on a paved lot or in open pasture, and send a pin for the spot.
The questions we get asked in Katy
- My dump truck is parked at a Hockley pit; will you pick it up from the pit yard?Hockley Mine and the Hockley Plant sit about 12 miles north of Katy on the Mine Safety and Health Administration register, and we pick up from pit yards like those. Send the gate address and the name of whoever controls access.
- My Katy truck has only ever hauled inside Texas; does a Texas-only registration matter?749 Katy carriers run intrastate on FMCSA’s census, so Texas-only registration is common here. Have the title and current Texas registration ready and we handle the rest of the paperwork with you.
- Do you take flatbeds that hauled steel coils?FMCSA’s census lists 185 Katy carriers hauling metal sheets, coils and rolls, and their tractors and flatbeds fit what we purchase. Include photos of the deck and the chain or strap points with the cab.
